As children we were taught to “never take drugs.” Yet the taboo cloak that shrouds drugs makes it such a tempting field to explore, ironically leading to more social drug addiction. Unfortunately our legalistic rejection of drugs as a society cuts us off from the amazing benefits some drugs have to offer. The truth is that not all drugs are bad. Why should drugs like alcohol, tobacco, sugar and caffeine be legalized, but medicinal drugs such as cannabis, psilocybin mushrooms and DMT be outlawed?
Ancient cultures made use of drugs in their sacred ceremonies. Many shamans and healers have also used drugs such as ayahuasca and ibogaine to heal traumas, addictions and mental illnesses.
