Deep reflection, endurance, growth, transformation, renewal.
These are some of the powerful themes that are associated with the Snow Moon, February’s bright full moon (occurring on the 1st of Feb 2026).
By the time the second month of the year arrives, I think most of us are ready to take a step back and reflect on where the hell we’re going. I typically find January such a full and chaotic month that I need the entirety of February to slow down, introspect, and nap wherever possible! What about you?

Snow Moon Spiritual Meaning & Symbolism
‘Snow Moon’ is the name given to February’s full moon, as traditionally this is a time of year when heavy snow falls (at least in the Northern Hemisphere). The name is rooted in North American Indigenous tradition and has also been called the Eagle Moon, Bear Moon, Hunger Moon, amongst many other names.
Nearing the end of winter, there is a sense of reawakening and renewal occurring beneath the surface of the snow. This is a time when the first stirrings of life may start to poke through the ice in the form of snowdrops, crocuses, and other hardy flowers.
On a spiritual and symbolic level, this is an invitation to examine what unseen transformation is occurring within us. How do we want to grow, change, and evolve? What new chapter are we entering in our lives?
If you live in the Southern Hemisphere as I do, summer is starting to come to an end, and autumn is on the horizon. The Snow Moon can be a refreshing opportunity to ask yourself, “What do I need to thaw, melt, and dissolve within me to find more clarity, direction, and peace?”

How the Snow Moon Feels Emotionally
Depending on where you live in the world or what’s going on within your life, the Snow Moon may inspire feelings of hope, renewed energy, and ambition within you. I compare this to a quiet plant pushing up through the snow, just waiting for its moment to fully bloom.
There is a feeling of quiet reawakening and resurrection here.
Alternatively, the Snow Moon may stir feelings of quiet contemplation, the craving to ‘melt away’ old ways of being, and clear space for something radically new to take root in your life.
There is a feeling of contemplative transformation and release here.
Unlike other full moons, the Snow Moon is a lot more subtle and soft, but don’t underestimate its power!
How to Work With the Snow Moon (3 Practices)
Here are some potent ways to work with this year’s Snow Moon energy:
1. Ice Cube or Snow ‘Release’ Ritual
Rituals are external symbolic actions that communicate to our unconscious minds the desire for a specific inner change. In this ritual, go out into the snow (best for Northern Hemisphere folks) or get an ice cube (best for Southern Hemisphere folks), and think of something you want to release from your life.
For example, perhaps you want to release insecurity. Draw this word on the snow using a stick, then let it melt. If you choose to use an ice block, hold it in your hands, then visualize infusing it with the energy of insecurity, and place it on the ground outside to let it melt.
Would you like to save this?
Your information will never be shared.
Reflect on the experience in your journal and note any big or small changes that occur after doing this simple ritual.
2. Snow Moon Trāṭaka Candle Meditation

In this simple meditation, find a white candle, light it (and put it somewhere safe), and use it as a focal point for meditation. Yogic practitioners call this Trāṭaka, which is Sanskrit for “look, gaze.”
The goal here is to focus gently on the flame of the candle while reflecting on a quality you want to strengthen in yourself. This symbolizes the “returning light” of Spring.
If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, you might like to instead reflect on a quality you want to purify or release within yourself.
Do this practice for 10-20 minutes and notice how you feel afterwards. Calmer, clearer, more at peace? Write it down and keep track of what changes in your life as a result.
3. Reflect on These Snow Moon Journaling Prompts

Keep this practice simple. Start with one of these journaling prompts, and if you feel the urge, reflect on more of them:
- Where in life are you holding on when you need to let go?
- What have you secretly outgrown within yourself/your life?
- What are you willing to welcome into your life in the next month?
- Name an inner block that limits your ability to accept change. What is one simple step you can take to dissolve that ‘inner ice’ a little more?
- What is the biggest unexpected lesson you’ve learned this past season?
- How are you holding yourself back and preventing your growth in your personal or work life?
- Who do you want to become – what version of yourself are you called to embody?
- How might you be acting ‘icy’ towards yourself? Describe what being warmer towards yourself would look like and feel.
- What thought, feeling, or project have you been quietly gestating that is almost ready to be shared with the world?
