7 Types of Spirit Guides (& How to Connect With Them)

by Aletheia Luna ยท Updated: Feb 17, 2024 ยท 333 Comments

Spirit guides are said to be the entities that we choose (or that are assigned to us) before birth to aid our spiritual growth and transformation.

However, not everyone holds that perspective toward spirit guides.

Other notions surrounding our spiritual helpers include the more psychologically oriented one, that spirit guides represent parts of our unconscious minds that symbolically help us find wholeness.

And still, to other people, spirit guides are personified parts of our Higher Selves that are revealed to us in various shapes and forms when we need spiritual guidance.

No matter what perspective you subscribe to, it is beyond doubt that we all need guidance, direction and support in life from guides that are beyond our own capabilities.

In modern times, spirit guides, like many other elements of spirituality, have been heavily monetized and commercialized both on the internet and in real life (I’m sure you’ve seen the wide variety of courses, meditations, decks, etc. out there helping you to “manifest your spirit guide”).

But despite the apparent new-age-ifying of spirit guides, they are nevertheless a shared human experience that still retains value and needs to be honored.

In fact, coming in contact with one of your spirit guides can mark a significant point of change, transformation, and rebirth in your life.

If you’re just beginning your journey of connecting with your spirit guides, keep reading.

What Are Spirit Guides?

How to find spirit guide image

Our spirit guides are universal forces that are here to help us. A spirit guide can appear as an angel, animal, mythical creature, ancestor, ancient god or goddess, otherworldly entity, or interdimensional being.

At the most basic level, a spirit guide is a type of energy that is embodied in an array of different forms. In other words, spirit guides are archetypal forces or aspects of life which teach, warn, support, comfort, remindย and reveal things that we need to learn about ourselves in order to grow.

Do Spirit Guides Actually Exist?

Image of a person at night in their soul place amongst the trees

Do spirit guides actually exist on another dimension? Or are they all inside the mind?

Here’s the thing: I can’t answer those questions for you.

Whether spirit guides are projections of the mind, reflections of the soul, or dwell in different realms altogether is one of the great mysteries of life. Only you can decide that for yourself!

Do We Only Have One Spirit Guide?

Warrior Goddess image

You might be wondering whether we have many spirit guides or just one.

In my experience, I believe we have multiple spirit guides. Some we are born with, others visit us sporadically during the course of life.

For this reason, I divide spirit guides into two categories: our major guides, and our minor guides.

Major guides typically accompany us throughout our lives and help us to learn major life lessons. Minor guides are temporary and help with daily concerns or issues that we struggle with.

Spirit Guides and Spiritual Awakening

Image of a person's eye that is symbolic of soul retrieval

Of what relevance do spirit guides have on our spiritual awakening paths? Well, as implied by the name, spirit guides help our spirit, our innermost essence, to evolve in certain directions.

For example, if one of your spirit guides is Kuan Yin, the Bodhisattva of compassion, you’ll be directed to open your heart and show more mercy to others (including yourself).

Would you like to save this?

We'll email this article to you, so you can come back to it later!

Your information will never be shared.

If Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity appears to you, you’ll learn the value of generosity, wisdom, and clarity.

If Freyja the Norse goddess calls to you, you’ll learn how to embrace your sexuality and the cycles of life and death โ€“ and so on.

Depending on what inherited traumas, wounds, and contractions we individually possess, our spirit guides can help us work through those areas, releasing old blockages that keep us in small and constricted states of being.

My Experience With Spirit Guides

Spirit guides image

I’ve got to admit that by nature, I’m a fairly skeptical person.

I donโ€™t like believing something unless Iโ€™m practically hit in the face with it, full force.

Until about 2015, spirit guides were just “spiritual mumbo jumbo” to me. I ignorantly assigned them to the woman-reading-a-crystal-ball-and-telling-your-future category.

But things changed on one of the first-ever shamanic trips I took with a plant teacher (psilocybin mushrooms).

My intention was clear: I wanted to get in contact with my spirit guide โ€“ if there even was such a thing.

Going into the experience with a mind half open and half closed, I journeyed inwards through dancing patterns, kaleidoscopic images, and other wild scenes.

But holding the intention to meet my spirit guide strongly in mind, I was eventually humbled. I traveled down what felt like a tunnel deep, dark into the earth. Chattering vampiric mouths, ghosts, skeletons, and other ghoulish images appeared around me. And then, finally, I reached the bottom.

A face โ€“ half-man, half-goat โ€“ appeared on a black luminous background. He smiled at me, frowned, laughed, mused, glared, and about a thousand other facial expressions that all changed every few seconds.

I had finally met him โ€“ Pan, the god of the wild places โ€“ my spirit guide. For what felt like ages I observed this trickster figure staring at me with endless different faces. I didn’t quite know what to do, say, or think!

Later, in the integration phase of my shamanic journey, I realized that Pan had led me down into my inner Underworld and had initiated me onto my Shadow Work journey. One of his messages was this: we are all composed of many, many different parts and everything is not what it seems.

But my meetings with Pan didnโ€™t just stop there!

Through the next coming years, I continued to see Pan every so often in daily life and in my dreams. Not only that, but I continued to meet more spirit guides. The floodgates had been opened!

If you’re dubious about the existence of spirit guides like I was, I encourage you to approach them with an open mind. Acknowledge the possibility that you might be wrong, that they might just exist. Allow a margin of error.

On the other hand, if you believe in the existence of spirit guides โ€“ if you have had direct experience with them, but seek a stronger connection โ€“ you’ll find some continued helpful advice below.

7 Types of Spirit Guides

Image of a woman and a wolf

Right now, it seems to be a common trend to believe that spirit guides are primarily animals or angelic beings โ€“ but this is only one small dimension of the many possibilities that exist out there.

Spirit guides, I believe, can have unlimited shapes and forms.

A spirit guide could just as easily be a soft gust of air that makes the hairs on your arm stand up, as it could be a full-blown godly being that you meet during a shamanic journey.

There are so many possibilities out there, and below I will break down the main โ€œtypes,โ€ โ€œspeciesโ€ or forms of spirit guides which you might encounter on your path.

Remember, you can have more than one spirit guide โ€“ in fact, most people often do!

1. Half Man Half Beast (Trans-Species)

Many spirit guides manifest themselves as half-man/woman and half animal. Examples include centaurs, fauns, harpies, mermaids, sphinxes, fairies, and minotaurs.

Many deities also appear as spirit guides, for instance, Anubis (jackal-headed Egyptian god), Ganesha (elephant-headed Indian god), Ra (falcon head, human body), etc.

As I mentioned above, the first ever spirit guide that I personally made contact with was Pan, a half-man half-goat entity, who โ€œrevealedโ€ to me my own personal shadow self and the need for me to embark on a journey of healing my core wounds.

2. Animals/Totems

Animals are well-known spirit guides and have gained a lot of popularity over the past few years, perhaps thanks to their accessibility in our everyday lives.

Some ancient cultures, such as the indigenous Americans and Chinese, held animals as sacred representations of their tribes or lineages.

These days, spirit animals come to represent and reflect a personโ€™s own inner yearnings, passions, instincts, and needs, moving from group use to more personal and individual use in this day and age.

(On a side note, if it isn’t clear yet, the “spirit guide” of this website is Wolf!)

3. Light Beings

Many people describe โ€œlight beingsโ€ (also commonly known as guardian angels), as being their spirit guides.

Shadow Self Test image

Light beings are said to help people move through traumatic areas of life such as death, loss,ย and grief. Light beings are called such because of their tendency to appear bright, glowing, or full of light.

4. Ancestors

Ancestral guides are entities that have some kind of blood connection to us and our lineage. An ancestral guide could be a recently deceased member of your family (mother, father, aunt, grandfather), or a long-dead relative that you have perhaps never met in your lifetime.

When I have done shamanic journeying in the past, I have connected with what I consider my ancestors. To me, they appeared as shadowy beings that felt distinctly familiar. They taught me that although I felt alone and isolated in my birth family, I am part of something vastly larger.

The messages that our ancestors bring can be beautiful and life-changing.

5. Plants

Shamans believe that the world and everything in it is composed of vibrant, living energy. This includes plants.

Ayahuasca โ€“ a psychoactive brew that is made out of a vine commonly found in Peru โ€“ is one of the most well-known ways of getting in touch with the spirits of nature.

Interestingly the Banisteriopsis Caapi (Ayahuasca)ย vine is known as โ€œthe vine of the souls,โ€ and it is common for all those taking it to feel guided by the plant into the realms of inner and outer existence.

The same profound capacity can be said for many other psychoactive (and non-psychoactive plants) such as certain species of cacti like San Pedro (mescalin being the psychoactive compound), certain Acacia species (DMT), and so on.

Plants can either be symbolic, like in pagan traditions that associateย certain qualities with certain plants, or experiential, where ingesting the plant stimulates mental, physical, and emotional expansion.

6. Gods and Goddesses

Gods and goddesses have been worshiped, feared and written about since the dawn of time. They span across every culture, every tradition, every religion, and every part of the world.

Common gods and goddesses that serve as spirit guides include Athena, Kuan Yin, Apollo, Lakshmi, Lugh, Kali, Hathor, Horus, Shiva,ย and so on.

7. Ascended Masters

Ascended masters are beings that have already lived on this earth, gone through a spiritual awakening but have become enlightened, awakened or have transcended the cycle of reincarnation. Thus, ascended masters represent the ultimate teachers and gateways to the divine.

It is said that ascended masters, like all spirit guides, teach all people who call on them (not just you) to achieve greater wholeness and harmony in life.

Common examples include Krishna, Jesus, Confucius, Kuthumi, Melchizedek, Mary the Mother of Jesus, Babaji, Gautama Buddha, and many others.

9 Ways to Connect With Your Spirit Guides

This article is not about invoking spirit guides, as in calling on a guide who you believe will help you. Instead, the following guidance focuses on how to reveal the spirit guides who have already been assigned to you in this life.

Here are some powerful ways to connect with your guides:

1. Scrying

Scrying is the ancient divinatory practice of gazing into a reflective surface, such as water, a mirror, or a crystal ball to receive special information.

From a psychological perspective, scrying helps you to get in touch with your unconscious mind and the important guidance which may be locked away within its depths.

Scrying is, however, something that must be practiced consistently โ€“ it takes some practice.

But if you’re a visually-based person (i.e., one who receives insight through pictures or thinks visually), this path may be worth committing to.

In order to connect with your spirit guide via scrying, set an intention to โ€˜seeโ€™ your guide first. You may like to say a mantra or prayer to communicate with your guide beforehand and your sincere desire to meet them. Read more about scrying.

2. Dream Work

Here’s how to practice dream work:

Just before going to bed, set the intention to see, meet, or speak with your spirit guide within your dreams. Continue this dream work practice for about two weeks and see what happens.

When you wake up, note any strange figures or unusual patterns that emerge in your dream. The goal is to find repetition: what messages or dream beings keep appearing?

Sometimes our spirit guides donโ€™t directly reveal themselves, but instead symbolically reveal who they are to us. Take note of symbols that keep emerging and journal about them. What do they mean to you (don’t overthink the answer)?

Once you have a strong inkling of who/what your guide is, thank them. Continue to ask for guidance and for their appearance in your dreams before going to bed. Learning how to lucid dream is also a powerful way to contact your spirit guides.

3. Silence Your Mind

Image of water droplets rippling outward

One of the best ways to contact your spirit guides is by silencing your mind through practices such as meditation or mindfulness exercises. Here is one simple practice:

Sit or lie down in a quiet place that is undisturbed by other people. Focus on your back or thighs as they come in contact with the ground. Notice the rising and falling of your chest. Listen to the sounds around you and focus on being present in the Now.

If you have raging thoughts, jump up and down for a little bit (to expel the frantic energy from your body), then resume your meditation.

Whenever a thought, storyline, image, memory, word, etc. comes up, note it silently, then let it go. For example, you might notice a memory from yesterday, and note silently “memory” or a random thought and note “thought.” Donโ€™t try to fight these thoughts, just let them flow.

When you feel sufficiently relaxed and centered in the present moment, ask to hear the name or see the face of your spirit guide. You might need to wait for a while, so be patient. Let go of all expectations (they will block what you are about to receive) and keep your mind open like the sky.

Journal about your experiences afterward. If you struggle with this practice, donโ€™t worry. Most people do. Just practice it for 10 minutes each day for a week and see what happens.

4. Bibliomancy

Bibliomancy is the practice of seeking spiritual insight by opening a book you’ve intuitively chosen at a random place. This form of divination was popular in the middle ages, but it continues to be a valualbe way of gainin guidance, even until this very day.

Here is how to use bibliomancy to connect with your spirit guides:

Go to your personal library or collection of books. (Alternatively, if you donโ€™t have any, go to a local library.) Stand in front of the books and close your eyes. Ask to be drawn to a specific book that will help reveal your spirit guide. I encourage closing your eyes as you do this so that you arenโ€™t influenced by bias. Let your inner feelings guide you.

When you feel a pull or intuitive ‘nudge,’ pick up the book your hand has paused over. Then, either open the book at random and quickly look at the page, or wait for a page number to pop into your mind. Read what is in front of you.

Sometimes bibliomancy takes practice because it requires you to have a strong connection to your intuition. Other times, you wonโ€™t receive a direct response, but will instead receive a clue that will help you explore further.

Remember, spirit guides are powerful beings with their own personalities. Calling on them will not necessarily make them want to reveal themselves to you straight away. Often, by concealing themselves and making you work to discover them, you learn important lessons along the way.

(However, with this being said, spirit guides may decide to send a very loud and clear message, it all depends on your life context!)

5. Visualization

One relatively simple way of contacting your spirit guides is through visualization.

There are quite a few spirit guide visualizations already out there on the internet which you might like to try out. You might even like to create your own visualization by listening to soothing music and imagining that you are walking down dark a staircase into a white room at the bottom. In that white room your spirit guide will be there, waiting for you.

Remember to always set an intention for your visualization. In this case, it would be โ€œI wish to connect with my spirit guideโ€ or something similar to that.

6. Plant medicine journeying

Image of magic mushrooms used in shamanic journeying

Firstly, a word of warning. Plant medicine isn’t for the fainthearted and it absolutely requires a ‘sitter’ to watch over you such as a sober friend you trust or a trained shamanic guide/healer.

If you have the ability to access plant medicines such as ayahuasca, psilocybin mushrooms, or mescaline where you live, approach them with the utmost reverence. These aren’t “party drugs” โ€“ they’re doorways to profound places and must be used reverently. Even marijuana, in the right ceremonial setting, can open a portal into the โ€˜other side.โ€™

Please note that journeying with sacred plant medicine doesn’t always bring what you want โ€“ it brings what you need. So while you may have the intention to meet your spirit guides, you might instead be tossed into a cosmic kaleidoscopic voyage into another realm or a subterranean sacred geometrical ego-death experience.

Spiritual Wanderer Course image

Spiritual Wanderer Course:

Being a lone wolf and a spiritual wanderer is a sacred calling in life โ€“ a unique and alchemical path of awakening. You donโ€™t need to feel lost, alone, or stuck on your journey any more. Itโ€™s time to meet your soulโ€™s deep needs for clarity, self-acceptance, and empowerment. Let us show you how โ€ฆ

Above all, please ensure that you’re mentally sound (i.e., balanced, neutral, and relaxed) and are as emotionally prepared as possible for the experience โ€“ plant medicine isn’t something to trifle with. If you approach it with an anxious or depressed mind, chances are you’ll experience what’s known as a “bad trip.” Mindset is everything.

Remember to set a strong intention to connect with your spirit guide before going into the experience, and repeat that intention throughout the journey if possible.

7. Trance

No, Iโ€™m not referring to a genre of music! Iโ€™m referring to the state of mind, as in, a half-conscious state.

You know that strange mental space you enter before you go to sleep (technically called the hypnogogic state) where images play out in your mind, kind of like you’re dreaming? That is the state weโ€™re aiming for here.

When you’re in a trance, your mind is open and receptive. It no longer has the typical filters of conscious waking reality. As such, this state is perfect for connecting with your spirit guides.

Many ancient cultures used trance to โ€˜connect with the gods.โ€™ Different ways of entering trance include self-hypnosis, various breathing exercises, relaxation techniques like catharsis, sensory deprivation, watching a pendulum, visualization, drumming, and dancing.

One simple way to enter an altered state is to stare at a candle gently while practicing the shamanic breathwork technique. Shamanic breathwork involves breathing softly in through the nose and out through the mouth in a circular or connected way. There should be no pause in between, immediately following the out breath with the in breath, and in breath with the out breath.

If you decide to try this trance-inducing practice, do it gently and slowly for about ten minutes. Stop if at any time you feel uncomfortable.

You can read our article on inducing a trance state for more guidance.

8. Nature Immersion

Image of a beautiful cornflower nature scene

When you take the time to look and pay attention, nature is sublimely magical. It is also a beautiful place to come in contact with your spirit guides (particularly animal spirits and trans-species beings).

Find someplace outside. Sit in a park, by a river or stream, or go hiking. Look at the clouds, bodies of water, and trees. Can you glimpse any faces? What animals keep appearing that have seemed to accompany you for a while?

Just the other week I was staring at the clouds. Out of nowhere, one particular cloud morphed into the face of Pan. I interpreted this as a clear reminder of his constant presence in my life. And yes, while this could have been a product of my imagination, the very fact that I interpreted the cloud as showing the face of Pan speaks a lot about my personal unconscious.

Look around you, be mindful, and soak in the mystery. Nature teaches us so much with or without the presence of a distinct spirit guide!

9. Look For Synchronicity

Synchronicity is another word for a meaningful coincidence. Have you ever seen repetitive numbers (such as 222, 3333, 1111, 1212), names, or symbols arise in your life? Pay attention. These often carry important messages.

Synchronicity is a wonderful way of “following the breadcrumbs” and clues of who our spirit guides are.

Shadow & Light Membership:

โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ "Receiving these messages is a beacon of light and hope for me in currently very challenging times. The words of wisdom speak right to my soul, guiding and encouraging me further on my path. I highly recommend Shadow & Light to everyone who seeks to develop and cultivate a relationship with the Inner Self." โ€“ Karin

Also, seeking out synchronicity can be used as a technique to contact your spirit guides and to ask for their guidance.

As always, if you’d like to reach out to your guides, set a clear intention that you either say internally or out loud. You can also set an intention by saying a prayer. Here is an example of a prayer you could use:

โ€œDear Spirit/Divine/Source, if it is your will, please help me discover my spirit guides. Please send me signs each day that I can understand. Thank you.โ€

Every day, look out for unusual and repetitious signs, names, symbols, places, or objects that appear. Keep a notebook and record your observations.

After one week, reflect on what you have seen. Are you being shown something? Synchronicity works best when we are in touch with our inner selves so ensure that you are practicing mindful awareness.

    Hi,
I was sat reading a newspaper in a car park when a Romany gypsy old lady appeared in my mirror, she looked at me directly in my eyes, she had all the wisdom and compassion of the world, wrote all over her face.
I wasn’t afraid but for some reason thought I’d pretend it was just a normal thing and not act spooked, at the same time I kept an eye on both wing mirrors knowing she would have to appear in one of them before she left as I was parked tight up against a tall brick wall.
After a min of her not passing I looked back into my rear view mirror and she had vanished.
It might help in replying knowing that since this occurrence (6 months ago) my health has took a turn for the worse recently.
    What had I just seen?

Sorry to hear that your time is limited. However, we all have a limit on this rock and in this vessel. The answer you seek cannot be given by any one but yourself. Although, individuals here may be able to help you understand their perception of your event. What you feel that this encounter means is likely much closer to the truth than any other individuals interpretation.

Since you’re kindly asking for guidance with understanding this event I’ll provide my interpretation from the information you’ve provided.

Knowing that you believe you are limited in this vessel due to health concerns, I think that there may be things you still must do before you cross over. There may be relationships that you would like mended or goals that have yet to be accomplished and your higher self knows that you won’t be happy without accomplishing whatever task you already know you may be desiring. Regardless, I think, generally, this event occurred to create a higher awareness of something that only you may really know. What are you, all of a sudden, becoming more aware of?

I am wondering about one of my spirit guides. He has been with me for about a year, I think. My totem introduced us, then left us alone with a feeling along the lines of “I dare you to trust him”. What ended up happening was an odd kind of ritual taking place that really, really scared me and that in hindsight might have been something of a test.
He is a very dark guy, threatening and sometimes almost menacing and he certainly has something volatile and violent about him. In fact, he is somewhat fond of taunting and threatening me. Whenever there was something difficult to do he was a looming, judging, derisive presence, that watched from afar. He never helped. But he also never impeded what I was doing and always seems quietly satisfied whenever I achieved my goal. Despite this, I could never quite bring myself to see him without suspicion.
He has never talked to me, until today, when he suddenly told me his name. It was very unexpected to say the least. So today I basically agreed to open myself and let him in, trust him whatever the situation and invited him to visit me more often. And I asked him for help in learning to protect myself. He was delighted and seemed to grow lighter. He is still scary.
I got the feeling he was doing this to redeem himself in some way, to ascend or to learn and if it is so I hope he succeeds. He doesn’t seem to know whether he is/was human or not, I certainly never perceived him as one. He simply *was*.

In any case, he doesn’t fit into any of the above categories. I don’t think they can cover everything. But I can’t help but wonder what he is. Seemingly not human (I’m still not entirely certain on that), no animal or plant, certainly not a light being, a master or a god. If anything I would think he is a “dark being”, though not necessarily evil. He simply enjoys intimidating… anything and everything. Maybe he’ll manage some kind of cleansing by helping me, get rid of something that’s holding him back or down. It feels like a quest from his end, or an order. Make something new, he says. I don’t know. I do hope he’ll be able to gain the experience he wants.

I was wondering whether anyone has made a similar encounter before?

Perhaps, it may have been an elemental? I’ve spoken to a local Native American woman, whom I’ve met at our local spiritual shop, about 6 months ago. She had explained to me that she was able to lucid dream and has been able to communicate with many spirits and guides. She had come to the shop that day, because she had several accounts of meeting a dark and shadowy appearing guide whom she was not able to communicate very well with. She had claimed that she asked her other guides who it may be and they led her to believe it was an elemental spirit and that he was safe to speak to. She also claimed that this elemental spirit appeared to be wearing a dark cloak. Earlier that day I had taken a 15 minute break at my office and took a walk around the building. I was holding a Lemurian crystal in my hand that I had recently purchased. While walking, it felt as if the crystal jumped out of my hand. It fell onto the sidewalk and only chipped the crystal a tiny bit. I’ve learned when crystals do this and remain mostly intact, they are either done with you and looking to assist another or would like to return to the earth and are not necessary to guide ones self. While speaking get to this woman, I had an overwhelming feeling that she needed this Lemurian crystal, before she had explained her difficulty communicating with the elemental. After speaking to her for a couple minutes longer I decided to give her the crystal and wished her the best of luck on her journey. I wish you the best of luck as well. I would recommend searching for crystals that may help communicating with elementals such as green adventurine, green moss agate, red carnelian, or amazonite. I’m sure there may be other crystals to aide in communicating with elementals.

Thank you very much for your answer!
I’m not able to lucid dream at all… I wish I was. I go out like a flame.
But I was always kind of sensitive towards environmental stimuli. As a child, I hated it when animals or other humans were in the same room with me, because I couldn’t concentrate at all. With puberty, I learned to be pretty much completely blind to it. Now I’m trying to re-learn at least part of what I have lost. It’s not going all that well, seeing as I have wilfully ignored all of it for about a decade and learned to build my own version of reality… I can’t communicate particularly well with any of my guides.

How I perceive him seems to match with what the woman you met described (he is even wearing a black cloak. Hahaha. Somehow I find this very funny).
Your mention of crystals also got me thinking. Not that long after I met him, I was in the natural history museum in Tokyo. There was a giant smokey quartz, not quite a morion yet. It was as big as my torso and I couldn’t get closer than about 4 meters without feeling nauseous, dizzy, alive and utterly exhilarated at the same time. Ever since then I have been obsessed with getting a smokey quartz cut into a very specific form. And I just noticed that this guide feels exactly the same to me as that huge crystal in the museum.
However, what’s even more odd is that a while ago, I came into possession of a… metaphysical… stone that looks a lot like the aventurine, but I only started carrying it around with my, ehm, metaphysical me two days before he started talking to me. Just now I tried to put it away and felt a great reluctance. I’ll still try to find a stone in the physical realm, like you suggested.

Also, he kind of insisted I leave the above comment for no more than three days, which will be over in a few hours. I get a feeling, this one will have to similarly disappear in two days or after you have given me the go ahead! He honestly is an odd one. But, hey, I got the answer I wanted! :D

        Thank you very much again!

        …

I honestly hope you are picking something, because I feel like a complete and utter idiot or like he is either playing a prank on me or there is major miscommunication going on on, but here goes anyway: you should first pick the red and then and then the greenish aquamarine.

Ehm, whatever you are going to do, good luck!

You should pick whichever crystal that you feel may be attracting you the most. Let your intuition guide you. If you have a local metaphysical shop or reikei healing center, you may be able to browse through some crystals. If you find difficulty choosing crystals, wave your receptive hand, your non dominant hand, over a few selected crystals and try to see if you can feel their energies. Not all crystals are for everybody. They all have their own uniqueness, even if you’re choosing from an assortment of 50 of the same type of crystal.

The elementals are known to be tricksters, but often in a good way, in a fun way. It may be more fun to them than you, but all in good intentions.

Another suggestion, look into aligning your Chakras, as they may be out of line and preventing you from communicating or lucid dreaming or even discovering what your personal gifts may be or how they may have changed from your childhood.

I don’t think any well intended being would ask you to remove a post from here. Think of the others who may be in similar situations? You’ve found this old post and I was made available to you almost instantly. Please do not feel ashamed of asking questions here. Maybe the elemental was playing another joke that you have taken far too literal, regarding removing your question?

I do get the feeling he is laughing at me. But he’s also very pleased right now. Guess that was a test of that promise to trust him I made on the day of my first post, even when I find it ridiculous or it is embarrassing. Better something harmless like utter embarrassment than death because I hesitate. Way to go though. I don’t think he understands how humans usually build trust! (Or thinks it’s inconsequential anyway).

My chakras are not very aligned, that’s true. But I feel that’s the reason I need the smokey quartz. I tend to be all over the place but when I hold a small one, even one that’s not perfect, I feel so much more grounded and aware albeit a bit overpowered. I need a simple crystal to balance it out, because the smokey crystal is too “spiky” and the other one too “soft”.
I’m generally pretty good at knowing what will work for me and what won’t, in terms of materials, anyway.

As for the a shop… I’m in the middle of absolutely nowhere :) But I’m planning on going somewhere in the spring.

I think my biggest problem with understanding might be, that so far, I have been either far too receptive or far too closed to outward influences (metaphysical and physical). I just don’t know how to protect myself and listen at the same time, so end up doing the opposite of what would help in any given situation.
I’m currently working on that and I think it works, but it is veeery slow-going.

Just keep on moving on. Stop tripping over your own feet and just walk forward. Stop questioning yourself and just let things flow more freely. Black stones/crystals like onyx or obsidian, or jet, are all very protecting and grounding. Amethysts could help with protection and communication. I’ve personally found blue kyanite to open and align my Chakras completely. I suffer from depression and often carry a sunstone and moonstone to complete my yin and yang, while also carrying an onyx for protection and grounding, and blue kyanite to keep my Chakras aligned. But if I were to find a black kyanite, I could probably lose the onyx. However, I love the way blue kyanite looks and how it just opens me up! This combination has been my favorite for a while now. I hope you have better luck locating the right crystals for you. I was very opposed to them at first. But when I let go of.my own ego and let my intuition take the steering wheel, life had began to turn around for me. Personally, I’m still in a low. Ive lost communication with my guides and I’ve began to feel lonely, but I can still feel their presence at times.

I’m sad to hear that! Your advice is invaluable to me right now and I do feel like you have just been sent around the corner to help me out.
I’m sure you’ll be able to reconnect with your guides! I’m wishing you the best of luck!

As for the dark offender over here, he really is a trickster! I wonder if I’ll ever get a straightforward answer when I ask for one. He does show me things I haven’t asked for, that then turn out to be extremely useful.
But, yeah, he loves to make me jump through hoops! I think it might have become even more so since he started talking to me. Seeing as he doesn’t help directly but more by bossing me around, I’ll just have to be patient!

I’m sorry it takes so long to reply: English isn’t my first language and I only have my phone at the moment. It’s also the middle of the night, so I’ll go to bed now.

Just know that all your answers are immensely appreciated!

Do not fear him and do not expect anything from him, he will guide you in ways you have never thought possible. Elementals are amazing and fun individuals. They will keep you wondering what is next.

For English as a second language, you are communicating very well! Keep that adventurine crystal in your pillow or under your mattress tonight and ask your elemental to try to visit you in your dreams. From what I’ve learned, always ask whatever you would like and believe that you will receive what you ask for. But never expect that you will get what you ask for the exact way you may envision it to be. Allow and be thankful. Let your elemental know that you appreciate their presence and if they get too bossy, ask them to be a little more nice to you.

I’m glad I could help you!! Take care and I wish you the best of luck!!

            Hey there!
I think, I have found out who he is for good now. He is “suffering”.
Which explains why he has always existed and couldn’t answer whether he is human or not, it explains his incredible power, his darkness and why he is deadly and unwilling to help on the one hand but wishes for happiness, can help, protect and strengthen. It also explains why everything he shows me has a kind of horror show feeling to it. Basically, I think, it explains all of the odd discrepancies.
Suffering is a vast field after all, and different for every single one of us.

It also explains why my actual guides respected and ‘suffered’ him, although none of them were especially taken with him ;) Why he has the power to control (anything and everything to the point of slavery and destruction) but in turn can be controlled as well. We make him and we un-make him, and he in turn touches us and leaves his mark…
Suffering itself cannot create something that doesn’t destroy or collapses unto itself. But it can enable *us* to create wonderful things, it can give us impulses. The price is often steep and we perceive it as terrible, but suffering itself is not a bad thing. It is just as necessary as happiness.
We serve him, but he doesn’t serve us. He takes and rarely gives. He teaches, but cannot be taught. He can be controlled, but cannot be fought, as fighting him would be fighting ourselves. He can be welcomed and embraced, seen, but not understood (at least not completely). In seeing him, he becomes soft and pliant. As he is passive in nature, nurtured by circumstances of our own or other’s making, by thought and deed, he seeks to teach us self-recognition and the ability to live well with him by our side. If we recognise him we may learn to work with him, rather than against him. He teaches us to be self-governed. The fear and the suffering we give up against, that we give ourselves to, is of our own making.
We cannot be condemned for doing so.
But there is another, freer way, that will make us happier in the end. And it is without the disregard of an important part of our being and of life.

I still think communicating with him is extremely difficult. But I think I’m getting the hang of which questions to ask. (His favourite answers are “It is your decision” and “Its nature will be as you make it”)
I have become steadily happier since working with him. Hahaha! :)

Wishing you all the best and all the power you need.

What a valuable lesson to share with others! I’m so glad that you were able to make contact. While reading through this, the recurring thought in my head was, this is me, this is what I imagine my higher self to be. So, perhaps, you are similar in ways. You may be speaking to yourself? Have you suffered? Do you feel like you are suffering now? I agree, many things are our decision and to choose not to decide, is very well a decision again. I feel the lessons I must learn in this lifetime and I have a sense of a “light at the end of the tunnel” but it’s not yet in my own vision. I have many lessons to learn in this human shell. The hardest one, being unconditional with my love. Both for myself and others. And to forgive and love when i only feel that others are not being genuine or don’t have great intentions. This, is why I too suffer. I have a sense of knowing what must be done and haven’t a clue how to traverse the path. As I feel I’m heading in the right direction, I am given many obstacles to overcome. Whether it be a tree in my way, a bridge to cross, a fast flowing river to swim though. Regardless, it is a journey and never made easy. I can see a path of least resistance, but I rarely travel that path. I’ve travelled the beaten path hundreds of times before. And every time I travel the common grounds instead of the unseen path, I never learn what I need to learn. In fact, that beaten path is quite boring to me. Ive seen the very same trees along the way and it’s just not very exciting for me to be stuck in perpetuity and experiencing the same thing every time. Least resistance is always far too easy and I cannot grow and learn without experiencing resistance, or suffering. I cannot learn without falling on my face a couple times and being dragged through trenches of muck and mire and getting my hands a little dirty. I too suffer, but the end is far more grand when you can envision the dualities of life. There can be no love without hate, no light without dark, no good without bad. The yin and yang, the opposing force only allows one to appreciate the desired force even more. I’ve personally been in depression for a full year now and just started taking medication the past couple of months. I’m approaching a grand crossroad of several paths to choose from. My relationship with my girlfriend of 3 years is tumbling fast downhill. Her 9 year old son is unhappy that we argue so often. Our 3 year old daughter is acting up. I’ve become toxic to my family and I’m slowly learning to release the things that are causing me to become toxic. I’m slowly evolving to this unconditional state and I’m being challenged nearly every day. But I am learning so very much and taking each stride with pride. I’m carrying my head high and reviewing my past to see where I have wronged and how i can avoid repeating the same mistakes. It’s not very easy at all. But I find everything that I’m experiencing very necessary. And each challenge has a message for me to learn. I don’t see my spirit guides, I cannot communicate with them. I no longer see my spirit animal flying in the sky around me. I often feel so very isolated, and more so, i am realizing that i am the one isolating myself. No its never easy, but each day is a new beginning and another lesson learned and an opportunity for growth.

He isn’t I or a higher self, but he is a part of me, as he is of every being.
The form he is showing himself in to me will likely be true only for me. You might see a woman or a small child, who knows? (I’m female, by the way. Not that I think this matters very much.)
I was depressed and ill for several years and have always tended to suffer with others every when I was small. But it’s been some years and it’s more like I’m throwing off the last vestiges of a prison I made for myself.

I think you might want too much. Desire, even the desire to better oneself can be a prison also. Let go a little of what you think you have to learn and start with what makes you feel light.
Do you love yourself? Do you love and accept your flaws? Do you love the part of yourself that wants to hurt others? If not, then learn. You won’t be able to forgive or love in others what you despise in yourself. And this is a truly difficult lesson to learn. I’m not there yet myself. I don’t know if I’ll get there during this lifetime, I can only wait and see.
And it’s not like you can’t criticise or be annoyed by others, either. Just remember that they are more that their mistakes and that they have their own lessons to learn.

You are farther along this journey than I am, I think, so this might be unwelcome advice, but why don’t you have a look at your own chakras. Advice we give others is sometimes equally important for ourselves. When I was depressed, I was terribly out of touch with my body and didn’t like myself at all. So how are your root and heart chakra?

            December 31, 2016 at 1:11 am

Much appreciated! No advice is unwelcome here. For, if I am led to discuss, then I am led to learn. I have taken to crystal healing and often carry a blue kyanite to open my Chakra without any required intention on my behalf. I also carry a jet stone to keep me grounded. I also like to carry a moonstone and sunstone to physically hold a yin and yang relationship with me everywhere I go. It has been tough to comprehend and the energy from them is so very subtle. Practically non-existent. However, even if these crystals hold no value to my growth, they can be perceived, at a very minimum, as a reminder for me to consider each of the metaphysical properties that each may potentially hold. I cannot look to these crystals to heal me without my own intention. But I do like having the constant reminder and seeding of positive thoughts that physically carrying them allow me to have. You’re absolutely right, I am my own worst critique and rarely live up to my own expectations and only perpetuate the negativity that I cause myself. I have to be more free flowing and less critical of others. And I have to release expectations of others and realize that, even though I may not be able to perceive properly, they may being doing the best that they can as well. Most of my fault, and torture, and disappointments, start and end with myself. I have too often blamed others for my own inability to grow and expand.

Nearly 5 years ago I had 2 messages from what I can only describe as my guide….the first time I was standing on a street corner sincerely asking for help (in my head) regarding a man that I had just met when suddenly a loud male voice spoke directly in my right ear “This is too important, Sharon, don’t you mess it up now!” I looked around but there was no person anywhere near me and I decided the voice was giving me information that I needed to heed.

The second time was almost 2 months later and I was very emotional concerning the situation that had just unfolded in front of me with the same man and while an old song played in my head “I’m already gone” that same voice spoke again in my right ear to tell me ” No this man is not that kind of guy!” Jealousy instantly vanished from my being like a magic wand had been waved over me. It took some time for me to realize I had experienced a miracle.

My life is very different today when I look around myself and see that jealousy and envy are no longer a problem for me. The quality of my friendships have done a 180 so I know if I ever find the right man I will know it. I am forever grateful to my guide for this gift!

At the loss of our first pregnancy… as I awoke on the theatre table after I was operated on… I saw my spirit guide. He was about 12 feet tall, his head went through the hospital roof, but because we had our eyes locked, everything material became transparent. It seemed to me the was/is some type of gladiator, because he had the golden helmet and breastplate; the whole shabang. In his eyes I saw and felt love unexplainable, it was wonderful and also comforting as to say to me… “its ok, I am here, all will work out in the end, we love you” I will never forget that moment and it kept me strong throughout the whole bitter ordeal. If anyone might have an idea who my spirit guide is or maybe can identify him, so that I can read more about him, it would be great! Otherwise I’m just truely thankful :)

Each one has different stereotype; Dethos-God like, Deithierius- tyranical, Pineoldgraltnen-peace/human like, Krรฎรจlstinbรธรผn-great power, algonfrend- darkness. There is another one but i dont remember his name but he was an intellect stereotype.

I would really like to share my experience with this. I am sure I’ve always had a “guide” since I was young. I could feel at least one being who would help me often. I went through a very bad trauma recently which nearly ended my life and was told by a telepath that there were some people in the universe who really liked me. I assumed these were dead relatives or perhaps deceased friends. I have begun to master lucid dreaming in the past few years. I know when it is happening and I can prevent myself form panicking. When I panic, the lucidity disappears. So, I have learned to go with it when it happens. Many times while lucid dreaming, I will ask for something in my dream. I will ask, “show me this” or “give me a sign” etc. And lots of times I do not get the answer at that time. The last few nights I have received alot of information that is very surprising though. Last night, I thought about the fact that I had been told for years that I had supporters on the other side yet I did not know who they were. So, I asked to see who this person or people were. Immediately, I saw a grand, white staircase and very large figures began to come down it. I was absolutely scared in my dream as they were big enough to squish me. Yet, they did not hurt me. They were very large human-like beings. Most were wearing what looked like cloaks or symbols. I saw a dark-skinned spirit who I thought I knew. I also got the feeling that the first few energies were in charge or higher ups. They appeared to be very, very old. I’m talking Aristotle old. Yet, I do not know who they were for sure. They were all male. Then, as the line continued, I noticed one spirit. It flashed a moment from life as a human so I could recognize them. I knew who it was and it was an incredibly famous musician on Earth when he was alive. He died when I was a teen. In my dream, I was so overwhelmed and touched that I began to cry. It was beautiful. I heard this person’s music playing in my dream. I think he was at the end of the line b/c he was not in charge. Either way, it was really awesome

I will try to keep this short, I live in Northern Wisconsin and have not yet connected to someone who can explain my experience, I’m hoping you can. :)
My Dad was abusive and died in front of me when I was 14, soon after I met who would later be my husband, we spent twenty years together and had four children, he was also abusive and my best friend too…many occasions I thought I would die at his hands, I did have happy moments, loved being a mother, loved helping people…eventually I exhausted myself. The last time my husband went to jail for violence against me i got into Meth heavily, I had dabbled thru the years but this was a total breaking of my life. I was done. Gave up. Failed. Spiraled out of control, lost. Till one particular incident when I thought I would for sure not make it thru, I heard a voice boom it said, “roose ROBUS rebus” I don’t know what it means but I closed my eyes afraid and saw a battlefield of light and dark, a voice within told me, “your light matters”… This was a turning point and much else happened. Not right away but one if the most significant elements to my journey was I began to dance a circular dance, I can spin endlessly (if my legs wouldn’t tire) and I feel like I am weaving Heaven and Earth. I see crows often and have since I was a child. I used to pretend I was a mermaid, as a child I had unicorn posters I would use to escape abuse. I taught myself how to meditate at age18 and did every night for 10 years, I later used this to survive in dark times wrapping my ex in light when he was having a meth induced psychosis. Another part to this is a friend who does reiki told me I am a starchild. I have never felt like I really was HERE HERE…I SPEND MOST TIME IN MY SOUL SPACE…and feel connected to Elektra, a Pleiades who experienced a similar life to mine. My daughter, when she was 8 had a dream I was a Goddess of the stars and was connecting them. She said also I was being worshiped in front of a pyramid, when I asked her why she said matter of factly, “You were done being a human an you died” I now am experiencing a great deal of elevated spiritual feelings which has me watching all the encoding all around me. I even dem of the nights templar and where thy hid treasure. Actually in my dream a unicorn showed me where to look. Just strange stuff!!! I guess what I’m wondering…my right hand is hot often esp when I dance. What is that? What do you think the animals and other visions mean? And have u ever heard of someone waking up one day with a burning desire to dance to heal the world?
Ps. I’ve always been different, this is way weird tho…
    Love,
    Amber
