New Moon Spiritual Meaning
The new moon is symbolic of death and rebirth, beginning a new chapter in life, the creative void, and the mysteries of the unconscious mind. This is a time to set intentions, be open to fresh possibilities, and contemplate your deepest needs right now. Be sure to connect with your intuition and gut instincts to ensure you’re on the most aligned path during the darkness of this phase.
Personality: Those born under a new moon are said to have a sweetness to them – a childlike wonder and enthusiasm that bubbles into many areas of life. If you were born under a new moon, it is said that you are starting off a new soul project in this life full of experimentation, adventure, and discovery.

Waxing Crescent Spiritual Meaning
The waxing crescent is symbolic of growth, the early stages of creation, and patient persistence. This is a time that carries spring-like energy, which can be harnessed to actualize goals, desires, and dreams. During this phase, you’re invited to honor the process of gradual unfoldment. Allow yourself to protect and nurture the tender seeds of intention you’ve planted! Now is your chance to lay down roots and make a determined and focused effort.
Personality: Those born under a waxing crescent moon are said to be assertive, adventurous, and creatively unconventional in their approach to life. You feel called to explore the path less traveled and blaze your own trail, even if that’s at odds with the established norm. At heart, you’re a creator and a rebel with a wild spirit that cannot be truly tamed!

First Quarter Moon Spiritual Meaning
The first quarter moon is symbolic of action, choice, and commitment. This is a time to double down on the goals and plans you’ve set for yourself and dedicate yourself to a path or goal. It’s also a chance to pause for a moment and consider whether you’re moving in the right direction to ensure your efforts aren’t in vain. Psychospiritually, this is a time to tap into your inner yang (Divine Masculine/Animus) energy, especially in the face of any potential obstacles. Embrace and actualize your power!
Personality: Those born under the first quarter moon are said to be strong-willed, assertive, and freethinking. You are a builder by nature – an alchemist of new ideas and dreams. Sometimes, that requires you to rip apart old structures, which can rub others the wrong way. You’re not interested in supporting the status quo; you’re here to build a different world.

Waxing Gibbous Moon Spiritual Meaning
The waxing gibbous moon is symbolic of refining goals and ideas, persevering in the face of challenge, and pausing to reflect on what’s working in life and what isn’t. This is a time to examine the details, fine-tune your intentions, and keep in mind the bigger picture. As there is an amplification of lunar energy at this time, now is the chance to find true clarity.

Full Moon Spiritual Meaning
The full moon is symbolic of revelation, celebration, harvest, and illumination. This is a time when the saying “As you sow, so you shall reap” comes into power. Whatever intentions, goals, or plans you set earlier in the moon cycle finally manifest and actualize during the full moon – or at least have the potential to, given the culmination of lunar energy. Now is your chance to harvest the fruits of your labor and make space to feel gratitude, and therefore true satisfaction, in all that you’ve accomplished and been blessed with. The full moon is also a powerful time for shadow work, energy clearing, and any form of deep-diving psychospiritual exploration.
Personality: Those born under the full moon are said to have intense and powerful personalities that give 100% to everything they do in life. Due to the sun and moon occupying opposing places in the Zodiac, there can be a tendency to feel the polarities and dualities of life more intensely than others for the full moon personality. You may often find yourself split between conscious desires and unconscious needs, creating a lot of inner friction. Nevertheless, when you learn to integrate this duality, you have the potential to be like a lamp, lighting the way for others and seeing all sides of the equation with unusual clarity.

Waning Gibbous Moon Spiritual Meaning
The waning gibbous moon is symbolic of releasing what’s no longer needed, feeling gratitude for what you’ve learned so far, and passing on your wisdom to others. Psychologically, this phase represents the stage of integration that comes after an inner breakthrough and is, therefore, about embodying your purpose and living your truth. Like a tree that has ripe fruit, now is your opportunity to gratefully harvest what you’ve learned and use that to nourish others because, as the saying goes, “to give is to receive.”
Personality: Those born under the waning gibbous moon are said to be destined teachers and visionaries, as the other name for this moon phase is the “disseminating moon,” which brings to mind the image of scattering seeds. You are called to share your wisdom in this life after dedicating time to exploring, healing, and integrating the fragmented parts of your psyche. Be sure to listen to that deep desire to communicate your inner truths in a way that supports the well-being of others.

Last Quarter Moon Spiritual Meaning
The last quarter moon is symbolic of releasing attachments, learning to break down the old so that it can be composted, and going inwards to practice meditative self-reflection. Now is the time to surrender anything and everything that is keeping you trapped or stagnant. During this phase, practicing forgiveness, clarifying boundaries, finding closure, and doing inner and outer purification are essential practices as they will make space for feelings of peace, freedom, and joy.
Personality: Those born under the last quarter moon are mature, contemplative, and empathetic souls who make ideal counselors, advisors, and therapists. You are a quiet and contemplative person who wants to help others expand their awareness, resolve their issues, and clarify their lives. You’re less interested in outer concerns than you are inner ones, and on a deep level, you’re fulfilled by helping others to let go rather than hold on.

Waning Crescent Moon Spiritual Meaning
The waning crescent moon (also known as the “balsamic moon”) is symbolic of deep rest, surrender, inward reflection, and gaining the wisdom that comes through letting go of old ways of being. Like the exhale before the inhale, the waning crescent is a time of letting go, winding down, and doing any final clearing of unfinished business. This phase corresponds to the Hermit, Crone, and Sage archetypes, and it’s an opportunity for you to relax and find wisdom within the darkness.
Personality: If you’re born under the waning crescent moon, you’re said to be an old soul who is inherently meditative and introspective in nature. You’re an intuitive, far-seeing person who feels called on some level to cleanse, release, and move on from all attachments that keep you locked in fear-based patterns. On a core level, you’re more interested in the world of spirit than everyday material concerns. You feel called to serve humanity while also balancing your need to rest and clear any accumulated inner baggage.

The moon is a loyal companion. It never leaves. It’s always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do. Every day it’s a different version of itself. Sometimes weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human. Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections. ― Tahereh Mafi

Thank you so much for this enlightening super powerful and positive article. I was born in full moon of which I did not know until I did a course that explained this to me. Gosh what a mind set did take place which was absolute trust and faith. Now I know where and what the triggers are. So appreciate and humbly grateful for all your insights and information. Thanks Sandra, I’m so glad to hear that 💜
Waxing Cresent, and the personality description is very much me.
Hi Luna; It’s an interesting topic that feels relevant to these days!
I was born at the waning crescent moon as well, and the symbolic significance of it seems relevant to my life as a whole. While I see myself as someone fairly positive in mindset and goals and a very ambitious dreame, overall I am pretty passive. I tend to be more introspective and I’ve just had a curious self-realization that I would like to know how do you or anyone who’s reading relate to: While I look up into new luminous horizons (activity and constructive loudness) as a travel destination, I always year to return to my dark home for rejuvenating, enjoying quietness, night, and being passionate with deep and slow reflection. Unsurprisingly, I also tend to be a night owl; creativity, passion, and energy comes when I am about to sleep. During that time my soul feels closer to journaling, meditating and praying. Yet, dawn and day are very important to me, they are my life goals and feel very beautiful in their own ways, but they are not my home; mine is night.
I have also been born during the ends of the lunar month of Ramadan (Islamic lunar calender), and by the way, the symbol of the crescent in Islam only represents the lunar cycle of the year, for without it we cannot know the specific holy month, Ramadan, and other important ones in which we have pilgrimage seasons to Meccah. So we base our spiritual journey around these Lunar cycles, since not all our months are equal in blessings, some are opportunities for repentance, others for renewing the self (the end of lunar year) and so on, Ramadan for example was a month for forgiveness and great Mercy (A mysterious night happens to be and carry ultra extra bonus in the hereafter rewards, probably at the ends of the month, what an offer, isn’t it? :)…
I’ve just done some mini-research about that when I received your article, so thx :)
What a curious overlap with Islamic ideas. Thanks for sharing this, Haytam :) I’m an early bird even though I was born on a waning crescent. There’s something about the liminal space of early dawn that calls to my soul. It feels quiet and restful but also fresh and alive. Walks at this time are sublime ;)
You’re always welcome, I am always happy to share what I am most passionate and dedicated to. I see; early dawn and sunrise are also very special to me as well, but I am still trying to figure out my specific relationship with each day timing, which can be challenging but rewarding. Perhaps it might be a good topic to write about in your articles if pertinent to your experience and knowledge.
Thanks for this idea, Haytam. I might continue writing about the various full moons of each month and their symbolic meanings. So keep an eye out for that ;)
Hi!!! The moon calculator is slightly flawed. The drop down calendar doesn’t disappear once you’ve entered your dates to see the shape of the moon for whatever date you choose to enter. Hopefully, this helps others and gets corrected soon.😊
Hey Christine :)
We tried replicating this issue and everything is fine. Maybe there were too many people using it at once (we did send this out to 70K folks on our newsletter)? I’ll keep an eye out for this issue though. Thanks for being here!
Hugs Luna for this article. Loved that it has a free calculator too. My birth moon is waxing crescent, though time of birth may be an added need
Thanks Hussain for sharing. Maybe for version 2.0 :)
I’m a Waning Gibbous, but also your calculator is off by a day… I’m sure it’s just a coding error.
We’ve tried replicating this issue but couldn’t. Would you mind sending a screenshot to our support if possible Sean? Here’s the link: https://lonerwolf.com/contact/
Finally, I’ve been waiting for Moon stuff on here! I tried the calculator, but the thing is that since I live and was born is Sweden, I didn’t know what to put in, I ended trying the United Kingdom since it feels closest to Scandinavia. I was born in the 5th February 1991 (I’m not afraid to share this kind of info), so according to this calculator I am a Waning Gibbious personality.
What gave me a realization about this all is ,besides the wisdom and visualisation part (I’m so often inside my head either in daydreams or visualizing all kinds of stuff, much of it being creative projects)- but before I can share wisdom etc I need to heal and integrate parts within me, and it feels so accurate. In my whole life I never got to develop me, who I truly am etc, a healthy ego or any real identity. Plus that I have so much deep inner wounds that needs to heal (I keep encountering re-traumatizing stuff in my life).
What’s worse is that, since I learned about Moon wisdom and magic, its phases etc, I know how much I need it. But I am still too deep in my eating disorder to be able to connect to anything spiritual, and for so long I’ve lost connection with both the moon and its flow.
Version two of this calculator will definitely need to include a few more countries I think, Zeldalice/Janni :) Now that you have a vision and purpose in mind, that can help to orient your path in a beautiful and powerful way. To help you through your eating disorder, I highly recommend 1:1 guidance in person if that’s accessible. An IFS, transpersonal, or somatic psychotherapist would be a great pick. Wishing you healing and integration 💜
I was also born under a waning crescent moon, and all of those archetypes resonate deeply. Happy Libra full moon to all 🌕 ♎️ 💖
So glad to hear that Courtney! Yes, when I first learned about the birth moon and discovered mine, it was a surreal moment 💜
