All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration.
– B. Hicks
We’ve heard the phrases many times before … “Man, he has a really negative vibe,” “That place had AMAZING energy,” “She’s so energetic.” Yet few of us ever really stop to fathom the depths of these common expressions and remarks. The truth is that instinctively, on both a primal and intuitive level, we can sense that not only is everything composed of energy, but this energy varies in its quantity and quality drastically in our everyday lives.
Have you ever been in a busy and bustling train station and felt a sense of “heaviness”? Or have you ever gone to a concert and felt a sense of inner “lightness” or elation? These are simple and fairly common examples of our ability to “tune into” different frequencies of energy in our lives.
So what does having a “low” or “high vibration” mean, and where does it fit into this equation? If you’ve heard these phrases used before, and if you are curious to learn more about what having a high or low vibration means, keep reading!
Spiritual Wanderer Course:
Being a lone wolf and a spiritual wanderer is a sacred calling in life – a unique and alchemical path of awakening. You don’t need to feel lost, alone, or stuck on your journey any more. It’s time to meet your soul’s deep needs for clarity, self-acceptance, and empowerment. Let us show you how …
Everything You Need to Know About Low and High Vibrations – Simplified
High vibrations are generally associated with positive qualities and feelings, such as love, forgiveness, compassion and peace. On the other hand, low vibrations are associated with darker qualities such as hatred, fear, greed and depression. We’ll explore low and high vibrations more in depth below.
But what does all of this really mean? Essentially, the higher your vibration is, the more in touch you are with your higher self, inner “God/Goddess,” Divinity, Consciousness, Holiness, Soul, or the many other words out there to describe your true nature. This also means that the lower your vibration is, the more out of sync you are with your higher nature, and therefore the more conflict you experience in life.
61 Signs That You Have a Low or High Vibration
Before you read the lists below, it’s important to remember 2 things. Firstly, you are rarely ever 100% “either/or” anything in life. Therefore, you’ll most likely fall along a spectrum of 25% high and 75% low, 55% high and 45% low – and so forth. So refrain from boxing yourself up into black or white labels. Secondly, discovering whether you have a primarily low or high vibration is really helpful . . . for you. However, be wary of using these labels against others (e.g. “He/she has a low vibration, keep away!”) – ironically, this perpetuates the low vibrations linked to segregation and discrimination. That is why this is best used as a self-discovery tool.
So with this in mind, what kind of vibration do you have, and how does this impact your life?

The reality is that most of us share some forms of “low vibration” and other forms of “high vibration,” but the goal is to become aware of what you are excelling at and what you could improve on within your journey of inner transformation.
One of the easiest ways to determine whether you are vibrating at a “high frequency” or a “low frequency” is by paying attention to how you physically feel. Do you feel light, energized, clear and healthy? Chances are you have a high vibration. On the other hand, if you feel weighed down, repressed, oppressed, stuffy or heavy, you are most likely operating on a low vibration.
Learning to unconditionally love yourself is essential for your healing and fulfillment in life. I’ve been there before, and still am at times!
So for now, I hope you benefited out of this article. Please feel free to share your experiences with low and high vibrations below.
Any advice you can share on how to raise your vibration will be appreciated!

Aletheia, thanks for writing this piece. It has definitely caused some food for thought. I haven’t written in a comments section before, but I felt it was a good time to share my current ponderings. I know this article is old, but I would still like to comment. So bear with me please haha My beliefs do change so what I say today may not be what I believe in the future depending on where my journey takes me and what I experience. However, currently I tend to agree more with Sue Corrigan-Yo. I have a preference for Eastern Philosophy and have travelled and lived in various religious cultures. Which has led me to lean away from the hierarchical caste system religious views eg. of the Abraham and Hindu religions. As these religions tend to be very black and white at times and like to see things as good or bad. I know these views are deeply ingrained in a lot of our cultural perceptions due to years of indoctrination. My experiences so far have shown that life is more colourful and this includes grey. I agree that we are energetic beings and that our energy affects others and ourselves. Where I disagree is that I believe we aren’t static or fixed. We can change and do change our frequency constantly, from one instant to the next. It can be as simple as eating or drinking something you enjoy or dislike. We are flickering/ pulsing with energy that’s in a constant flux. I also disagree with the premise that higher is better and therefore lower is worse. I view it more about temperance finding balance between the two. Being around someone who is “hyper” can be just as disconcerting as being around someone who is “hypo”. Certainly a hyper person can be fun and energising in the short term, but can throw you off kilter longer term. Just as a “hypo” person can be taken in short doses and may have some interesting insights, but you don’t want to spend too much time around them either. Especially if your equilibrium is out of whack. Imagine a world filled only with light high energy beings. It’s too much you feel too suffocated and pressed upon by their ever outward expanding energy. Too much high voltage can fray your nerves. Too much yang! I feel that the hierarchical caste based religions are too yang biased. You loose appreciation for the beauty and calmness of the darkness. Just as a world too dark is too withdrawn and you’d feel like you were continually falling down a rabbit hole with no end. If you have looked at the latest nanotechnology black colours you will get an understanding of what I mean. It’s like looking into a void. In both scenarios you need the opposite vibration to highlight the definition and beauty of the other. You wouldn’t see the stars or the universe with too much light or too much darkness as they snuff each other’s beauty out. When we suppress/deny one emotion in lieu of another it throws us out of balance. Some of the most in tune empathetic people I have ever meet have been through the most traumatic journeys. It has given them great insight. Using illness as an example illness forces you within. It forces you to contemplate life at a much deeper and real level. Even perhaps to contemplate mortality and what your legacy is. If you only have ever being well you’d never grow from the experience of illness or fully appreciate health. You’d take it for granted. If you have experienced chronic illness on the practical level you can also have a greater understanding of the healthcare system from the inside and can see where it can be improved. Where if you are only ever healthy you tend to have less empathy for those that are unwell and make assumptions about the medical system. Unless you are around those who are unwell and can give you some insight. I feel it is similar on the energy level. If you’re high energy you don’t sit still enough to appreciate your environment. So rather than pushing against the negative emotions see them as beneficial. They are as much a teacher as the positive emotions. Neither is better. It’s about balance and not staying only in one vibration, but appreciating both experiences as opportunities for growth. I like the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) view on the emotions associated with different organs and how our body strives for harmony. But throughout life our journey we experience internal and/or external pressures which can throw us out of harmony. And we aren’t born equal in any way, whether it’s physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, economically, culturally, environmentally etc. For example some are being born into countries or areas where there is war or climate change is effectively wiping out there physical habitat. In TCM the kidneys are said to regulate the emotion of fear. Fear is a great emotion to have, it’s a driving force towards change. You can have too little or too much fear when out of balance. Though at times both of these extremes are useful. But when out of balance either of these extremes could but you in harms way. Some people are born with only one kidney or a kidney dysfunction. This just means they have to work harder at balancing their kidney energy. Even more so when in a situation as mentioned above where there is a physical threat around them. This doesn’t mean that they are less than as a person because of this. In some ways they may look for solutions to the problem harder than others are because they want to move away from the extreme fear state. Or they may take risks others don’t because they are fearless. Depending on which way their kidney energies are out of balance. So there is a need for all the emotions. It’s more about aiming for balance. But accepting there is a time and place for the extremes as well. Anyway I realise I have written a novel haha and so had better stop here as I could go on and on. Thanks for reading some of my thoughts on this topic. I will continue to read your blog
I use gratitude as a way of increasing my vibes …..I deliberately do things that other people would be grateful for …..When the express the gratitude I repeat to my self – Thank you for the opportunity to do x y or Z for this person ……and Then of course I thank them for their Thank you ….. Jokes are another way of increasing vibration …which often lead to the other person sharing a joke or two as well ….we all have some giggles and gags …and up goes the vibration …. followed by a Thank you
With respect, I think this list is extremely naive. Its a left brained, separated and compartmentalized because it describes both sides of the human experience as 2 separate entities, a ‘split self’ rather than one whole integrated person. It is judgmental, self righteous, even arrogant and totally discounting of the highs and lows of the spiritual journey. I have been on a spiritual journey for 30 years, have had an out of body experience so understand the death and rebirth process and have an MA in psychotherapy. When we are on a spiritual path we walk between 2 parallel worlds simultaneously. The 3D world of TIME & SPACE and the SPIRITUAL WORLD OF TIMELESSNESS. These are interactive dimensional realities the whole time while we are in a physical body. Your understanding of energy vibration is an idealistic trendy, even ‘narcissistic’ view of perfection which you think we ””should”” be striving for, but it is a 3D perspective of Spiritual vibration which is still deeply entrenched in the material world. You make no mention of the role of ‘illness’ or ‘profound suffering’ which serves as a catalyst to the experience of the spiritual emergence process. If you only knew (you may realize as you age), that ‘high energy’ people are a ‘vexation’ to deep spiritual states of peace, compassion, kindness, contentment, spaciousness, harmony, beauty, states of grace, and the deeper psychic and spiritual levels and dimensions. I entirely understand where you are coming from with all of this but it not as black and white as you make out. One has to look to the natural world, to the circular world of ‘cycles’ (The yin/yang and I Ching) ( the four seasons) (the 4 compass points), (The cyclic motion of the planets around the sun) to get a true picture of the emerging spiritual journey. The archetypes of Neptune, Uranus and Pluto, which are beyond earth bound consciousness and the wisdom of ages, the classical Greek and Egyptian and Eastern philosophers and the similarities of all the Esoteric religions from all nations on earth, to truly understand the meaning of Universal consciousness. There is a lot more compassion needed to understand the big picture, its not all about high energy and positive thinking. You also have to take into consideration that while we (and all our loved ones) are in a physical body, we are subject to aging, sickness and physical death which brings with it profound suffering and challenges. I just offer this for food for thought so that people do not ‘feel guilty’ or ‘lacking’ if they connect with anything on the first list.
Yes I agree with you. It’s a very idealistic list that could alienate a lot of people from their spiritual journey. Perfection is not really the essence of the spiritual journey, otherwise it wouldn’t be called a journey. There are many highs and lows on the spiritual path, and a high vibration does not only attract positive things. A high vibration can also trigger people around you, and result in negativity directed at you. And when I say high vibration, this is a relative term to the people around you.
You can also vibrate at different levels on different areas in your life such as relationships, health, money, career etc. And its important to realize that your soul may want you to experience something that you label “negative” in order to learn something. There are so many facets to this binary notion of high versus low vibrations that cannot possibly be explained in a list.
Its true, even Jesus said “they hated me for no reason”. I too have experienced this people being nasty and rude to me for no reason, even when I have been friendly towards them. My view is you become a mirror to them, and they see the light and peace within yourself, and either on a conscious or unsconscious level feel that void within themselves.
It’s interesting that an article like this can produce responses which are like ripples in a pond.
The ripples ( as your reply) are all real and as a direct response of the original article. Therefore the effect of the article regardless of nativity is to interest you and all the others to add knowledge and information to the world in a place that did not previously exist. This information is now being absorbed and digested by many including myself. Hence the original article is the catalyst to inspire you and others to pass on that inspiration to people like me and for that I am grateful to you. This has been very interesting cumulatively and I now understand much more than yesterday. Thank you.
Thank you
Thank you so much for describing this in a different way. I was feeling very negative as many of the items on the first list really seemed to resonate with me at times. I became somewhat upset with learning this about myself but now after reading your perception, I feel much more on the correct path than I had before. I am working very hard to achieve the higher states of consciousness but we do slip back and forth very often as you described we are still in the human body and the ego does still play into our lives
I loved this article. I have been on a “soul searching” mission for several years now. I know that I am on the right path. I see my old self when reading about the low vibrations. I was miserable then. I now am definitely vibrating much higher. Life isn’t so hard anymore. I am able to wake up and make the choice to have a good day. I am positive I have a ways to go, but I have made amazing progress in just the last three years.
I am very interested in this because I just recently had a spiritual awaking I feel wonderful like I did years ago. It’s amazing nothing can stop me now kinda feeling. I am so full of positive energy I cant keep it in. I constantly make a humming like vibration. I cant stop doing it. My husband ask me all the time why are you doing that. I tell him I dont know why I just automatically do the sounds without even realizing it. Can you please tell me why or what this means? I’ve been searching all over the internet trying to find a answer. Thank you in advance for helping me. Brandy Rowell
Please share with me ideas on how to raise vibrations on a community level. Thank you
Very thought provoking article
After reading this article I see I have a mix of both but mainly more positive things… I still do feel down from time to time and I don’t always make the best decions and I still eat fast food though it costs to eat healthy in New York lol but after reading this I do see I am on the right path. This article helped put some things in place for me. Thank you.

Excellent article. I was surprised to see how much I resemble both categories, and it gives some clear points to improve in the present. Thank you!
