Our spirit animals are powerful teachers on our spiritual awakening journeys. They help to guide, inspire, and lead us toward our true purpose while helping us to reconnect with our Souls.
When we come in contact with our spirit animal, we often immediately feel a sense of resonance, reverence, awe, and sometimes fear.
On a deep level, we know that this aspect of Nature is here to reveal lessons and truths that we haven’t yet had the stomach to digest.
However, simply the presence of our spirit animal can often give us the strength to enact changes, make brave decisions, and live our truth.
There are so many ways to learn from these sacred manifestations of Nature.
3 Different Types of Animal Allies

As I elaborate in my spirit animal article, there are three types of animal allies:
- Spirit Animals (guides that call on you)
- Power Animals (guides you call on)
- Totem Animals (guides you inherit)
We’ll only be exploring what your potential spirit animal is in this spirit animal quiz.
Spirit animals are the guides that appear in your life because you need to learn something from them – rather than actively calling on them or inheriting them from a lineage/clan. These are usually the easiest animal allies to connect with.
You can learn more about the other two types by reading the spirit animal article.
Can Our Spirit Animals Change?
Yes, our spirit animals often change throughout the span of a lifetime. We can also have multiple spirit animals.
However, most of us tend to carry one central spirit animal with us throughout our lives that doesn’t change.
In other words, there are both short-term and long-term spirit animals.
While short-term spirit animals help to temporarily guide us through tricky periods of growth, change, and rebirth, long-term spirit animals are there with us through thick and thin.
Many believe that our long-term spirit animals are an aspect of our Soul manifested in animal form.
I believe Wolf, for example, has been by my side since birth as I have always carried a deep resonance with her. As my own essence is very similar to that of a Wolf – and the lessons I’ve learned in this life closely match what Wolf teaches – I consider Wolf to be my long-term spirit animal.
Many other short-term/transitional spirit animal guides have popped up on my path through the years, some including Dove, Spider, Cricket, Moth, Panther, Deer, Raven (and the list goes on).

My husband, daughter and I went out to lunch today to a spot we frequent; however, I had never noticed a bucolic large black & white photo of a small herd of elephants walking across the land. I commented to my daughter how beautiful it was and said to her, “I love ellies!” I kept thinking it was strange I’d never noticed the print before…after lunch we came home and took the animal spirit quiz – alas, I got elephant! I’m thinking the Universe is definitely sending me a message pretty loudly. Thanks for this and hope you all are well.
I got horse – really interesting! I am intrusively drawn to horses at the same time I feel a fear of them. I wonder what this could be telling me about myself?
I don’t understand, I got wolf, I like being alone, lone wolves do NOT exist, though most people think so. Everything else is me, though.
I’m a little freaked out. I do IFS and I’ve been finding this part inside me, it comes up as a panther and sometimes a lioness, and if felt different from other parts. It kind of just roars and wants me to stand my ground in the face of people who usually make me feel powerless…
I got panther… I’m just like “woah.” haha. How cool. Thank you for posting this!
I was kicked in the head by a horse in my twenties when i freed it from being stuck with his bridle on a fence (thankfully it left a scar)….took me 40 years to become aware that the horse is my spirit animal… yep a bit slow :).i can smell, see, feel, hear the horse around me….
Thanks!
I always knew I was the “wolf” ! I always tell myself I’m a lone wolf. Everyone around me tries to ‘fit in’, hence why I don’t fit in because no one seems to care if you don’t fit in their box, their ways. I just want to be myself and unique in my own way (we all are unique aren’t we?) and be accepted me for who I am. I’d rather travel alone to my own beat than feel alone in a group.
I feel like you guys should do a guided meditation. I think it helps people to be visually guided. I am so grateful that I found you guys while on my journey you really clarified a lot. I saw the signs, you confirmed I was seeing signs. Thank you for all you do. Selfless like the world we’ll see
I got the Bat as my Spirit Animal. I had different animals in mind, but the Bat couldn’t be more spot-on!! After struggling through the Dark Night of the Soul all summer, I am going through a massive transformation and rebirth process, but right now I am still struggling in the Shadows, so the bat is perfect and inspiring! Also, some of my first childhood memories involve watching the bats at dusk where I lived. Even now, I always stop and look up when I see bats and they bring me back to that childhood awe. I believe the bat is here to help me through this transformation, as it always has been. Thank you Luna & Sol❤️
I wish some of the questions could be answered with more than just one answer. On a few of the questions, i resonated with a couple of the answers given. So the results doesn’t feel as true to me but i still enjoy these little quizzes you give. Thanks
