We all have an inner child – the part of us that is still innocent, shy, curious, creative, and open to the world.
It is this part of us that infuses our life with spontaneity, play, joy, and wonder. But it’s also this part of us that carries our deepest sorrows, fears, anger, and hurts.
Most of us go through life totally unaware of this inner part of us. We seem to carry a very two-dimensional idea about who we are, not realizing that we are composed of many different parts.
What is the Inner Child? (& the Benefits of Doing This Work)

The inner child is one of our most ancient parts. In fact, our inner child represents our original self – the identity that originally blossomed into this world.
When we are oblivious to our inner child, we’re also totally unconscious of their needs, desires, and wounds. It is then that we play out self-sabotaging patterns and repeat unconscious habits, not knowing that they are all rooted in the inner child.
By becoming aware of your inner child and what they are trying to tell you, you will develop more self-respect, self-love, and inner groundedness.
You’ll become more capable of listening to your authentic needs, develop the ability to undo old harmful patterns, and find the clarity to pursue your true life purpose.
On a spiritual level, reconnecting with your inner child helps you to heal the heart chakra and feel more physically, emotionally, and mentally safe in this world. As such, learning to embrace your inner child is a powerful form of down-to-earth spiritual practice that can immensely deepen and enrich your spiritual journey by helping you to awaken your heart.
How to Connect With Your Inner Child

The best way to reconnect with your inner child is through a practice known as inner child work.
In inner child work, we actively seek to reconnect with this innocent and oftentimes wounded part of us through a variety of self-nurturing practices.
You can think of this test as an introduction or even initiation into inner child work. It will give you a place to start and something to focus your attention on.
As always, don’t take our word as the final authority. If you feel that your inner child is trying to tell you something that’s even more important than what this test reveals, by all means, listen to that inner voice instead and go exploring!
Also, please don’t be afraid of reaching out for professional help. You can also take a look at our Inner Child Journal if you need a structured, supportive, and compassionate way to begin this crucial work.

I got: You need to slow down. This is true! I find it difficult to just take time out to relax, and do nothing. I always feel like I should do something “productive”, even when doing something enjoyable. It’s not that I’m a “workaholic”, at least not at my job. But I guess maybe in life, I’m kind of a workaholic, wanting to always “get things done”, I find it so satisfying to check things off my list as completed, but then feel anxiety as I add more to the list for tomorrow to get done. I just feel like there’s so much to do, and not enough time! I’m always multi-tasking as a result, so I feel that I’m often not fully immersed in the present moment, which I know is the only time we really have :)
I need to be nurtured! Which is really spot on since I have recently realized that I am suffering from depression and not taking the best care of myself. You never cease to amaze me with how spot on your tests can be. Thank you for what you do!
I did it twice because i was stuck between 2 responses for a few of them, and I got Needs to Grieve, and needs more Magic. Both are really on point! I had a hard time with the dream questions as non of the options were really what I dream about. My dreams are more about normal life in an abstract way, where the normal rules to life don’t apply. As in people can appear or disappear with out warning. I can go from being an observer to being present instantaneously. I also have several different dreams in a night, and I’m not sure if they are all one dream that changes drastically or separate ones that change as I change sleep cycles. Any thoughts as to which selection would most apply to this dream type
Hi, the test isn’t fully visible because social media tabs are across each set of questions making a question impossible to see or answer in each set, I tried my phone, iPad and safari on my iPad. The tabs were still obscure each set of questions.
My result is spot on, the need to feel safe. I haven’t felt safe for decades now, and this doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon. I don’t know how to feel safe anymore.
I got the result that I need to play more. I saw others in the comments say they were unsurprised with their result, and I suppose I am too. (We all deep down know what we truly need, I think!) Thank you for this important message about not taking life so seriously, though – maybe I might actually try taking it in at some point. :) (Also those little social media boxes were covering some of the choices so I couldn’t see them as well, and I’m on an android phone!!)
The social media badges are stuck on my choices. I’m on an iPad so that may be why. Next time I’m on my laptop I’ll see if it’s doing it there.
I need to grieve result. No surprise since end of lifestyle I’ve known. Husband died Xmas after 5 years of nursing home care. Still recovering from retirement from a difficult nursing job. Covid19 strictures and the ‘beat goes on’ as the music states. “Is that all there is?” as a 1950’s tune would say. Mostly feeling guilty that I have it so well when so many are not. Mostly anger that my hard won wisdom is failing me and I’m sounding like a broken tune. Waiting for the other shoe to drop. sigh.
I got: I need to grieve.
This is likely true. I feel so isolated and like to bottle up my emotions which isn’t good for me. Being in the house more hasn’t helped either as I feel out of touch more than ever. But I know I’m working on my feelings and trying to get fresh air more. I have to be more present in life.
I never feel alone, love having my own space, live alone apart from my cat. (My choice). have a people phobia, and agoraphobia with panic attacks.(can’t leave the house). At last am on the road to recovery and starting to feel the way I used to.
I see you have some books I am interested in buying, can you let me know the prices in NZD please?
Cheers, Shayna.
