Inner Child Test: What Are They Trying to Tell You?

We all have an inner child – the part of us that is still innocent, shy, curious, creative, and open to the world.

It is this part of us that infuses our life with spontaneity, play, joy, and wonder. But it’s also this part of us that carries our deepest sorrows, fears, anger, and hurts.

Most of us go through life totally unaware of this inner part of us. We seem to carry a very two-dimensional idea about who we are, not realizing that we are composed of many different parts.

What is the Inner Child? (& the Benefits of Doing This Work)

The inner child is one of our most ancient parts. In fact, our inner child represents our original self – the identity that originally blossomed into this world.

When we are oblivious to our inner child, we’re also totally unconscious of their needs, desires, and wounds. It is then that we play out self-sabotaging patterns and repeat unconscious habits, not knowing that they are all rooted in the inner child.

By becoming aware of your inner child and what they are trying to tell you, you will develop more self-respect, self-love, and inner groundedness.

You’ll become more capable of listening to your authentic needs, develop the ability to undo old harmful patterns, and find the clarity to pursue your true life purpose.

On a spiritual level, reconnecting with your inner child helps you to heal the heart chakra and feel more physically, emotionally, and mentally safe in this world. As such, learning to embrace your inner child is a powerful form of down-to-earth spiritual practice that can immensely deepen and enrich your spiritual journey by helping you to awaken your heart.

How to Connect With Your Inner Child

The best way to reconnect with your inner child is through a practice known as inner child work.

In inner child work, we actively seek to reconnect with this innocent and oftentimes wounded part of us through a variety of self-nurturing practices.

You can think of this test as an introduction or even initiation into inner child work. It will give you a place to start and something to focus your attention on.

As always, don’t take our word as the final authority. If you feel that your inner child is trying to tell you something that’s even more important than what this test reveals, by all means, listen to that inner voice instead and go exploring!

Also, please don’t be afraid of reaching out for professional help. You can also take a look at our Inner Child Journal if you need a structured, supportive, and compassionate way to begin this crucial work.

Your inner child is trying to tell you that you need to slow down because you are moving too fast in life.

I can see my inner child marching in the corner with welps standing out from legs to back where he was punished while my sister sits and eats her pudding he is not allowed to have. As an adult I still march in that corner only now my sister has passed away and her grandchildren eat the pudding.

My inner child says that I need to grieve. Hmm, maybe that’s why I left teaching elementary school after 30 years and went into bereavement counseling. Anyway, I am determined to examine my childhood for the core wound that needs to be grieved. Hopefully, it will help me heal and move forward in my life with less self-doubt.

    I Need to Grieve:
As if I haven’t enough already. As I write this it’s the eve of the 21st anniversary of my Mum’s death and it still feels like it was yesterday. I didn’t get a lot of time to grieve I was pushed from pillar to post with people telling me what i should do with my life. As I had been caring full time for my mother until I was 20 i hadn’t been able to find a job so I was basically pushed into getting one when all I wanted to do was lock myself in a room and grieve. Within that year I heard a relative say to another that ‘she should be over that by now’. They probably meant well and were genuinely worried but I wanted to live on my terms. For most of my life and even to this day I’ve always had people telling me what I can and can’t do. Even from my own husband (and I have a lot of issues with him) and I feel very restricted it makes me angry. There are so many things that have happened to me thoughout my life so many bad memories that outweigh the good ones, I’m so frustrated and depressed every day I’m reminded of the same memories and I find it very hard to let go.

Katie, I hope, from the core of my being, that somehow, as soon as possible, things change for you. I pray that you find contentment, love and peace. I’m a religious person, and I’m not sure if you are. But one thing thats helped me get through lifes tribulations is this one quote. “When I learnt God tests those he loves, I took that pain like an honour.” In my religion, those with the hardest lives that remain patient, and try their hardest to remain moral, are blessed with the most divine heavenly positions. There’s also this other saying, that life is like a droplet of water in the ocean compared to the expanses of the afterlife. But you don’t need this, you need to let things out. Perhaps, a therapist? If you want to explore spirituality, maybe God? Regardless, I just hope you understand that your mum isn’t really gone. She’s intertwined in your blood. She’s there in the choices you make she probably made when she was your age and feeling the things you are. She’s in the soil, trees and grass. In essence, she’s kind of everywhere still, you have to look for her. And if you want to believe in an afterlife, she waits for you there, watching over you.

My engagement was ended to a man i found out cheated on me. He tore our blended family apart and i miss my daughter (his daughter) terribly. I think of her often and the betrayal stung but him beating me and putting his hands on me because i dared to leave stung the worst. A whole family and all it’s memories shattered because he wanted to be selfish. My mother put a gun in my face a few days before i was set to give birth. I want to grieve too kid. I just don’t have the time and I’m sorry.

Girl, you have the right to be angry, sad, hurt…. All of it. If you haven’t tried this yet, look for an EMDR therapist. I’m a Black therapist in Florida and EMDR is the bulk of my work and it is very helpful. Good luck to you on your journey ❤️

    I Need to Grieve
This is amazing. My Twin Flame died tragically 2 years ago. I still have not
mourned him. I think I am scared to and have to face the fact he is really gone forever. He made me whole again. I finally believed in myself again, loved myself,
believed in myself. He helped me realize my calling as an Empath and helped me embrace it. He opened my eyes to the color and beauty in the world again. I believed in love again for the first time in a very long time and that I was worthy of it.
Since he is gone, I am completely numb and lost. I don’t feel anything, or that I deserve anything. All the color and beauty is gone. My happiness is our memories.
I need to heal. I need help.
