The Enneagram is a fascinating model of the human psyche. Everyone should take the test at least once in their lifetime!
Used in therapy, business, and self-development circles, the Enneagram is a powerful tool that can increase your self-awareness, empower you with self-understanding, and increase your self-love.
The Enneagram is also a highly psycho-spiritual model (meaning that it caters to human psychology and spirituality) that can support you on your spiritual journey.

What's Your Inner Child's Message?
We all have an inner child โ the part of us that is still innocent, shy, curious, creative, and open to the world. What's yours trying to tell you?
How Does the Enneagram Work?
The word ‘enneagram’ is composed of the two Greek words ennรฉa (meaning nine) and grรกmma (meaning something written). And that is the crux of the enneagram: it reveals the nature of the human personality by dividing it into nine different archetypes.
The interesting thing about the Enneagram is that it possesses a number of different facets that help us to identify:
(1) what we desire more than anything else,(2) what we value the most, (3) what tempts us the most, (4) what causes us the most fear, (5) what our biggest fault is, (6) what our greatest virtue is.
Our enneagram test (bottom of page) will help you to identify these different facets and what you need to pay attention to.
The 9 Enneagram Types
The nine Enneagram types include:
- Type 1 โ The Reformer
- Type 2 โ The Giver
- Type 3 โ The Performer
- Type 4 โ The Individualist
- Type 5 โ The Observer
- Type 6 โ The Loyalist
- Type 7 โ The Idealist
- Type 8 โ The Challenger
- Type 9 โ The Peacemaker
It is common to find a little bit of yourself in all nine Enneagram types. However, one or two of them should stand out for you as revealed by this enneagram test. These are your dominant personality types.
How Understanding the Enneagram Could Transform Your Life
The Enneagram Typology was first conceptualized by the mystic Gurdjieff and developed further by Oscar Ichazo and psychiatrist Claudio Naranjo.
There are several reasons why understanding your Enneagram type is so helpful:
- It helps you to become more objectively aware of your personality โblind spotsโ
- It assists you in developing more self-love by helping you to understand yourself more
- It encourages you to consciously work on parts of your personality that inhibit your ability to live a harmonious life
- It allows you to develop more awareness of your โhigher selfโ (Soul) by deconstructing your personality
Keep in mind that the Enneagram is more of a system of transformation than a means of labeling and identification. Perhaps the most amazing thing about the Enneagram is that it encourages the development and liberation of the Soul underneath.
Enneagram and Spiritual Awakening
The power of the enneagram lies in its ability to lead us to higher awareness. By helping us to understand the root of our fixations and various neurosis, we learn about our ego structure and where it broke off from Divine consciousness (called the ‘Holy Idea’). We also learn what quality we need to develop in order to deepen our spiritual awakening journey.
In his Enneagram book Facets of Unity, A. H. Almaas writes,
The … view of the Enneagram is that each ennea-type fixation is the expression of a limited mental perspective on reality, and that each of the nine egoic perspectives is the direct result of the loss or absence of the enlightened perception of one of the Holy Ideas … Working with the Enneagram as part of a larger spiritual work, however, leads to a much deeper realization of truth and thus, a freedom from personality patterns.

Perfectionist #7……on the fence with some of the answers cause I belong somewhere in the middle of most of them………I hate boxes to be put in. I like finding solutions rather than looking at the problem….but here I am. Depending on whose version of astrology charts you look at I am a Sun in Pisces or Aries and LEO rising either….so yes makes sense. I have Aquarius north node and Leo south node. All makes sense to me. Thanks for the test. I have taken Myers Briggs before. Probably same answer but don’t really remember.
Perfectionist. This explains a lot. Hehe…I am exactly what it says. Not the total me but certainly the core me. I am sure these things probably change throughout our lives dependent on current and past environment, people around us etc…I am not surprised at all with the answer I was given. Put that with my overachiever trait and Bamm! It has been a good life for 64 years so far and served me well. Being a perfectionist is a hard character trait to deal with for others and often our self but, I can think of many others that would be less appealing. Thank you Lonerwolf for making these “Looks into ourselves” available.
Going through the test my answers has always been a middle and balanced one that is, however, absent here on the website – a middle I can truly relate to, that gets it. Yet I cannot help but relate so clearly to both answers here every time.
What does that mean for me? What’s happening here?
When I read them I felt an inner force telling me this is who I want you to be but then suddenly another one tells me you are n/either n/or the other. You are You and Me is Me. And that is how and where I see (my own) personal boundaries coming in Not to be put onto this or the other side, under or over, in front or behind…simple here in the happy chappy middle wanting, NO this is a deep-seeded need to feel included at last. Thank You!
Thank you D_D_ for sharing. I find when we gravitate to both answers equally it’s generally a sign that we’re balanced between the two, ‘the middle way’ as many wisdom traditions describe is the closest to the truth.
And yes, these tests aim at describing the ‘personality’ level we all carry, but that is not really who we are, the Self at the center of it all, including our personalities.
Wow!! My test result is very true. I just found out more about myself which have been kept in the dark
Test Link is nowhere to be found.
Hey Adler,
We addressed a similar issue someone was having a few days ago, but it seems to be working from my end.
What browser or device are you using?
Hi there!
I just tried to take this test; but the questions are not popping up for me either. I have tried both Explorer and Chrome.
Thank you!
Hey Chelsea,
Thanks for the feedback. This test is a tricky one due to the length of the results. I’ve modified the way we embed the test into the site which should fix the test not appearing issue, but let me know if you get an issue with the Related Tests section overlapping the results. :)
I took the test four different times, and I got four different results!
Which confirmed what I know about myself, and that is I tend to be a chameleon.
Either that or this test is kind of faulty, and the questions are not arranged well enough to more precisely discern what enneagram you are.
Perfectionistโฆso true!
me as well, and it resonates 100% :))
Hi, just found your site and am really enjoying it. I can’t seem to access the Enneagram quiz on this page though… https://lonerwolf.com/enneagram-test/
Is the link or quiz itself it missing? Thanks for your help, I’m looking forward to taking it.
Hey CJ,
I’m sorry to hear that. We received some reports of the pictures under the test overlapping the results once the test was completed so we’re experimenting with different fixes for it. It should be working again within the next few days.
The perfectionist.
This was oddly accurate and gave me a lot to think about.
The Giver. ?? Admittedly I’ve taken the Enneagram test a few times over the decades (I’m 58). I’ve come out as a 9 more than once, and a 4 when I was younger. But I’ve never before received The Giver as my “type”.
Can Enneagram types change over time? Or is there generally one type a person will be throughout their lifetime?
Another factor to consider is that I’m at a very low point in my life rt now, having my life upended over the past 10 months (in brief: had to sell our family home in July, youngest daughter ‘left the nest’ in August, separated from a 26-yr emotionally abusive marriage in September, moved to another state where I know no one, living alone for the first time in 26 yrs, lost my cat, my home, my marriage, my kids (to ’empty nest), my mother (to dementia) … and not gaining any traction in my ‘new life’ so far. The shame and grief and loss have been overpowering. Well That was a lot of complaining! But I just wanted to know if all of these factors could possibly lead to a Type that isn’t me? (It does sound like me though … but so did 9, and so did 4 when I was younger and a hopeless romantic :)).
Thank you so much for all you do!!
Maureen–that’s a lot to go through! I’ve been a 9 and a 4 at different times of my life as well and I believe we can shift in many ways throughout our lives–especially in moments of intense change and transition.
Being a 9 and a “Giver” leads me to assume you’ve probably focused a lot on other people in your life. Perhaps this time of challenge and strife will lead to new insight in how to care for YOU. I certainly hope it does!
Sending light and love!
Maureenโtelling your story isnโt complaining. You gave us context. The darker the dark, the lighter the light. Hope things shine for you soon. Growth for a 2 would be making room for your needs ;-) xo. Good start here.
Iโm just learning about enneagram myself, but I was stuck between 2, 9, 4 (7, 1, 3โฆ) myselfโฆ You may want to look up what the types move to under stress (disintegration) and growth (integration?). I reckon 4 -> 2 under stress. 9s and 2s have a lot in common as well. There is also a system called trityping that is very validating, though not conventional (makes me a 2-7-9, and Iโm a sexual 2 with both 1 and 3 wingโฆthereโs a lot to itโฆand Iโm still not sure myself). Part of it may be that the personality tests donโt get at what truly drives you. Though the Loner Wolf descriptions are unsurprisingly as deep as Iโve seen. Here I got a 3, and Iโve been looking all along for a type that speaks to my drive for authenticity, so Iโm all messed up, because that description spoke to me. Blessings for your journey. May you feel the love of everyone that has ever smiled at you now.
You’re probably a 4w3 or a 3w4. 9 = 3 under stress and 2 = 4 under stress.
This test gave me the results of my growth type rather than my actual type. Maybe if you take the test again when you’re in a better place, you’ll get a 6 or a 1.
I’m the same way usually coming out as a 9 I’m Diplomat of the family but I took the test twice today and both times it resulted as the Giver which is so weird since I’m usually the one being manipulated not the manipulator and like you everything in my whole world was turned upside down this past July and I feel so alone and out of sorts trying to balance myself and I have moved in with my dad to take care of him now. Which kinda resonates since in a way I’m caregiving. In any case I feel ya on this one.
I do hope things turn around for ya and you find your happy place.
Ha ha, the individualist, spot on, that`s me except for “the feeling more special than others”. From a young age on my school mates made let me feel i was different from the “others” so i tried to blend in as much as possible. Now i live among some extraordinary creative spirits with whom it is nonsense to compete in specialities. Maybe our community is a (soul) group full of individualists.
