Inner Child Test: What Are They Trying to Tell You?

We all have an inner child – the part of us that is still innocent, shy, curious, creative, and open to the world.

It is this part of us that infuses our life with spontaneity, play, joy, and wonder. But it’s also this part of us that carries our deepest sorrows, fears, anger, and hurts.

Most of us go through life totally unaware of this inner part of us. We seem to carry a very two-dimensional idea about who we are, not realizing that we are composed of many different parts.

What is the Inner Child? (& the Benefits of Doing This Work)

The inner child is one of our most ancient parts. In fact, our inner child represents our original self – the identity that originally blossomed into this world.

When we are oblivious to our inner child, we’re also totally unconscious of their needs, desires, and wounds. It is then that we play out self-sabotaging patterns and repeat unconscious habits, not knowing that they are all rooted in the inner child.

By becoming aware of your inner child and what they are trying to tell you, you will develop more self-respect, self-love, and inner groundedness.

You’ll become more capable of listening to your authentic needs, develop the ability to undo old harmful patterns, and find the clarity to pursue your true life purpose.

On a spiritual level, reconnecting with your inner child helps you to heal the heart chakra and feel more physically, emotionally, and mentally safe in this world. As such, learning to embrace your inner child is a powerful form of down-to-earth spiritual practice that can immensely deepen and enrich your spiritual journey by helping you to awaken your heart.

How to Connect With Your Inner Child

The best way to reconnect with your inner child is through a practice known as inner child work.

In inner child work, we actively seek to reconnect with this innocent and oftentimes wounded part of us through a variety of self-nurturing practices.

You can think of this test as an introduction or even initiation into inner child work. It will give you a place to start and something to focus your attention on.

As always, don’t take our word as the final authority. If you feel that your inner child is trying to tell you something that’s even more important than what this test reveals, by all means, listen to that inner voice instead and go exploring!

Also, please don’t be afraid of reaching out for professional help. You can also take a look at our Inner Child Journal if you need a structured, supportive, and compassionate way to begin this crucial work.

I need more magic. I wasn’t expecting an answer like this, I thought it’d be grieving or dealing with past hardships or forgiveness or something much harder and sadder, but after reading it I agree entirely. I need more magic, more joy, more love. It’s very hard to access those things lately though.

I need to grieve. I know I need to grieve. My step son passed 6 months ago, my oldest child lives in a group home, I have a crap bio father who let abuse happen, used drugs and abused my mother, of which I always heard, but pretended I didn’t. I can’t function in my job or life anymore. It’s all exhausting. I’m afraid to let go and grieve. What if I can’t stop? Therapy has been a waste of time and money….I’m desperate to let this pain be but I don’t know what to do or even how to start.

Thank you so much for making this test. I have a suggestion. How about an Inner Teenager Test just like this? Because I feel that many persons were wounded badly in these years as well.

I have to agree & say I know this is accurate. My inner child needs to grieve. I have the Inner Child journal so I believe this is a good starting place for me. I think I have put it off long enough.

Maya, EFT/ tapping, search YouTube, enabled me to reach, release, and forgive, trauma that 40 plus years of Western led psychology had never even touched.
Taking certification training broke it wide open, after 5 years of not crying at all, the waterfall was frightening and liberating.
      Much love to you!

        Hi Teresa
My story is similar to you, in and out of therapy for decades but mostly to no avail. I’ve recently started tapping and was wondering if I could contact you to find out how I can maximise and get the best out of it? That would be abs great, but if not, that’s fine too!

    Hi Fellow Loner Wolves
It appears that my inner child is very hurt. There is sorrow, heartache etc ….
Yes. In my early childhood, I was heavily abused my older step brother. I was so sad and thought it was all my fault and I was very scared. This affected my ability to be normal at school and just be like everyone else. I have made peace with my older step brother now and still today I tell him I love him. Expressing honest and earnest forgiveness is truly an amazing thing to do for another person who may have wronged us. I see mercy and forgiveness as a great gift and valuable form of trait to have. In my new way of life I have grown remarkably and accepted that that these things were meant to happen to make me the man I am today. There is meaning. There is reason…… There is….. Purpose ! Me being a responsible man and being a grown adult is simply displaying and expressing forgiveness to others when someone hurts me. Whether it was deliberately done or even a simple accident, true mercy and forgiveness will overcome and our love for each other will grow even more. Inner children are hurt sometimes…… Aren’t we all at some point ? My inner child is still very much alive and says….. ” It’s okay…. I forgive you and will always love you ”
    Lots of Love
    From Luke
    p.s. O
Be forgiving my beloved child, always love always be wild.
Embrace the eternal divine love, from your loving Spirit in the sky above” <3

I got: need to slow down. That feels right. I always want to tick things of my to do list and I have trouble sitting down and relaxing when there are things to do. I want to improve as an illustrator/artist and feel like I have to spend every minute of free time drawing, but I have no time to do it, so feel guilty when I don’t and feel like I cannot achieve my goals if I don’t work hard for it. But I also realize it is good to relax, my body and soul need it. So searching for the balance is my challenge nowadays :)

As a Carer to the Disabled it’s often a no win situation when it’s time for personal inner child things. As the person being Cared about comes, first, last, and most times always. So it’s only recently that I am learning at 65 to slow down and stop having to do so many things on my daily Carer’s List. That my time and self caring are important for personal health, psychological health, and to relax and chill out.
so your assessment of my Inner child needs are to some extent valid at this time….Namaste
