The Enneagram is a fascinating model of the human psyche. Everyone should take the test at least once in their lifetime!
Used in therapy, business, and self-development circles, the Enneagram is a powerful tool that can increase your self-awareness, empower you with self-understanding, and increase your self-love.
The Enneagram is also a highly psycho-spiritual model (meaning that it caters to human psychology and spirituality) that can support you on your spiritual journey.

How Does the Enneagram Work?
The word ‘enneagram’ is composed of the two Greek words ennéa (meaning nine) and grámma (meaning something written). And that is the crux of the enneagram: it reveals the nature of the human personality by dividing it into nine different archetypes.
The interesting thing about the Enneagram is that it possesses a number of different facets that help us to identify:
(1) what we desire more than anything else,(2) what we value the most, (3) what tempts us the most, (4) what causes us the most fear, (5) what our biggest fault is, (6) what our greatest virtue is.
Our enneagram test (bottom of page) will help you to identify these different facets and what you need to pay attention to.
The 9 Enneagram Types
The nine Enneagram types include:
- Type 1 – The Reformer
- Type 2 – The Giver
- Type 3 – The Performer
- Type 4 – The Individualist
- Type 5 – The Observer
- Type 6 – The Loyalist
- Type 7 – The Idealist
- Type 8 – The Challenger
- Type 9 – The Peacemaker
It is common to find a little bit of yourself in all nine Enneagram types. However, one or two of them should stand out for you as revealed by this enneagram test. These are your dominant personality types.
How Understanding the Enneagram Could Transform Your Life
The Enneagram Typology was first conceptualized by the mystic Gurdjieff and developed further by Oscar Ichazo and psychiatrist Claudio Naranjo.
There are several reasons why understanding your Enneagram type is so helpful:
- It helps you to become more objectively aware of your personality “blind spots”
- It assists you in developing more self-love by helping you to understand yourself more
- It encourages you to consciously work on parts of your personality that inhibit your ability to live a harmonious life
- It allows you to develop more awareness of your “higher self” (Soul) by deconstructing your personality
Keep in mind that the Enneagram is more of a system of transformation than a means of labeling and identification. Perhaps the most amazing thing about the Enneagram is that it encourages the development and liberation of the Soul underneath.
Enneagram and Spiritual Awakening
The power of the enneagram lies in its ability to lead us to higher awareness. By helping us to understand the root of our fixations and various neurosis, we learn about our ego structure and where it broke off from Divine consciousness (called the ‘Holy Idea’). We also learn what quality we need to develop in order to deepen our spiritual awakening journey.
In his Enneagram book Facets of Unity, A. H. Almaas writes,
The … view of the Enneagram is that each ennea-type fixation is the expression of a limited mental perspective on reality, and that each of the nine egoic perspectives is the direct result of the loss or absence of the enlightened perception of one of the Holy Ideas … Working with the Enneagram as part of a larger spiritual work, however, leads to a much deeper realization of truth and thus, a freedom from personality patterns.

#8 The Boss or Challenger…yep, that’ s me.;p
:)
I’m an individualist. And yes, I used to feel myself special some way until recently. But my ego had been crashed into nothingness as I understood through various experiences, how stupid I was.
Now I consider myself a loyal student of my life. I’m enjoying learning myself and observing how this life is unfolding and letting me know myself better.
I don’t know where I’m going and yet I’m content of whatever is happening.
I’m meditating and relaxing these days and silently observing my thoughts and the space between them.
I don’t know if this is taking me anywhere. But, I’m enjoying
Thanks for the revised test. Previously, my ennagram had been Perfectionist. Now it’s Individualist. Maybe I’ve both these.
That’s funny, because previously I tested as Type 4, the individualist. I wonder if the 2 types are somewhat similar.
From what I’ve learned about the Enneagram, we all contain a little bit of all 9 types. So that perspective might help. :)
I actually resent learning I am a perfectionist.
But, I’d say, for now, an accurate assessment, more or less.
This made me laugh, mostly because that’s what I got too (perfectionist)and my response was rather like yours. Most of what I do is not perfect! (although, I guess I’d like it to be, lol!)
;)
Perfectionist spot on. I really like the sub divisions of this.
In essence my life pattern in a nutshell :)
Interesting test. A lot of it rings true. I am going to want to think about this for awhile ! Thank you.
Yes, reflection is good!
Thank you for another wonderful test! Perfectionist! Yes, definitely! I’ve always been a perfectionist- which is a double-edged sword trait, with a lot of pros and cons at the same time.
❤ thanks Maha! Yes, the nature of all 9 types is that there’s a light and dark side. No one type is ‘the ideal’ by any means. ;)
Type 2, makes sense, what are some ways to better understand my results of how to work with it?
Hi Liz, I’d say do some more research on Google for ‘Type 2 Enneagram.’ Otherwise, for more in-depth information, you can read a book such as “The Wisdom Of The Enneagram.” I hope that helps. :)
Extremely accurate. Opened my eyes
I’m glad to hear that Deena ❤
I also wanted to add, that you did a great job in introducing the reader in the topic of the enneagramm, you really covered the essential aspects.
Thank you!
Yes, it was fun taking your test and to me it was a kind of obvious to which type the questions were relating to . After having done a lot of work with the Enneagramm, what I know is, that my main type is not the “3” or performer, I am “6” altough it was hard for me in the beginning to accept it – the 6 was the one I felt the most dis-identified, every other type yes, but for sure not the 6. Then after accepting this hint and really dig in to it, I started to understand myself better and see my true blind spots, this process to unmask myself and really start do understand what it was all about was very liberating and healing. And today I can feel my soulpath and I can laugh at my fear to be taken for an “6” – to discover this holy idea and start to embody it, is a big gift and privilege
Thank you for sharing this, Ludovic. Yes, sometimes what we’re most opposed to or think we’re not is actually what we resonate with (or contain) on some level. I’ve had issues like this in the past too: that which I’m opposed to is what I’m afraid of stepping up and accepting in myself. The enneagram is an awesome system in this way ❤
I can’t figure out how to save/share my results. When I tried to share my result via twitter (to see if there might be a link to my results), all I got was a link to the test. I’d like to be able to share the full results with people. How can I do that?
Oh no! Posting my comment made my results disappear. Noooo.
Dear KT,
For privacy concerns, we don’t store your results on our servers so we can’t give the option to share the full result, just the name of the result you received (the Enneagram Type and its name.) We do offer the option of having the results emailed to you, which is why we offer the option of that prior to displaying your result on the website.
I hope that helps.
Thank you for offering these free tests to help us understand ourselves better. I see truth in my results and it’s interesting how these questions come to its conclusion.
thank you for you time
Thank-you …..That was quite true…xx
I would love to take the test but sadly cannot see a link to take it
My result is number 4: the individualist, and it hits the spot. I’m going trough a rough time and I think it’s because of my spiritual awakening so I’m surching for answers and accept me and find a way to let things go and accept. I thought I had met my twinflame.. Now I’m doubting.. I’m doubting everything..
The Perfectionist is an exact fit! I’ve got an inner moralistic core that has always seemed to be a foundation of my identity. It’s an interesting thing given that I grew up in a very conservative, fundamental background; yet I seem to possess a very liberal perspective of equality & acceptance that is in exact opposition of those teachings. Plus, having the complete works of Plato on my bookshelf makes so much more sense now!
The Enneagram Type 1: The Perfectionist was spot on with my personality. Thank you for this enlightenment and confirmation.
Wow! The Enneagram test results, for the Individualist, are eerily accurate.
Thank you for your time and input…fascinating couple!
