The pineal gland is one of the most mysterious organs in the body.
As a tiny pea-sized mass in the center of the brain, the pineal gland produces the hormone melatonin which helps to regulate our sleep cycles and reproductive hormones. But before science found its practical function, the pineal gland had much more mystical roots.
For thousands of years the pineal gland within our brains has been known as “the third eye,” also referred to as the ajna chakra. The third eye chakra, according to Hindu tradition, is responsible for conscience, spiritual consciousness, intuition, and insight. In her book “Awaken Your Third Eye,” Doctor Susan G. Shumsky writes that the pineal gland has been referred to in many different ways in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, as well as in Druidic, Judaic, Islamic, Taoist, Mayan, Tibetan, Egyptian, Greek and Aboriginal cultures.
Common names that describe the pineal gland in ancient and modern times include “eye of Horus,” “all-seeing eye,” “mind’s eye,” “divine eye,” “sixth/ajna/brow chakra,” “third eye,” and “eye of God.”
French mathematician, writer and philosopher, Rene Descartes (1596-1650), wrote in his book “Treatise of Man”:
My view is that this gland [the pineal gland] is the principal seat of the soul, and the place in which all thoughts are formed.
Since then, psychiatrist, researcher and author of the book “DMT: The Spirit Molecule” Rick Strassman has theorized that the pineal gland actually produces DMT. DMT, or Dimethyltryptamine (nicknamed the “Spirit Molecule”), is a natural hallucinogen that produces extraordinary visions and mystical states of consciousness.
Despite the importance and significance of the pineal gland, our modern lifestyles mistreat it. In particular, the fluoride present in our drinking water has been proven to calcify (or harden) this vital area of the brain — thus reducing its function.
Symptoms of Pineal Glad Calcification
When the function of your third eye, or pineal gland is suppressed, a number of symptoms may arise including:
- reduced IQ
- insomnia
- hormonal imbalances
- fatigue
- depression
- bipolar disorder
- alzheimer’s
- spiritual lethargy and disconnection
How to Decalcify Your Pineal Gland
For a while, I’ve been reading articles here and there about how to decalcify your pineal gland. I never took them very seriously until I got an MRI of my brain. As a person who is currently experiencing unexplained premature hearing loss, doctors advised me to get a MRI scan. While the scan showed no neurological defects (thankfully!) linked to my hearing loss, they did show that parts of my brain have been calcified. While the pineal gland was never specifically mentioned in the report, it does concern me:
There are many causes of brain calcification. Most of us who know about the pineal gland have heard that the fluoride in our drinking water is dangerous. But there are also many other culprits of brain calcification. These include:
- Pesticides and herbicides. All sorts of chemicals can be found in the vegetables and meat that you buy from the supermarket.
- Calcium. Excessive calcium (such as from drinking milk) can cause the substance to build up in your system.
- Mercury. This type of metal can be found in primarily in seafood such as fish, prawns, tuna and shrimp.
- Halides. This is a class of minerals that encompasses chlorine, bromide and of course, fluoride. Halides can often be found in toothpaste, dental products and tap water.
- Other toxins such as sugar, artificial sweeteners, air refreshers, deodorants, etc. and anything that isn’t found in nature.
Since my discovery, I’ve been researching different ways to reduce the calcification in my brain. I’ve made many changes to my lifestyle as a result.
If you want to take care of your pineal gland, you may like to go on a “detox.” The pineal gland detox is quite simple and beneficial. Here is how it’s done:
1. Filter your water
Try to avoid drinking tap water. God, when you learn what’s potentially in your tap water you’ll probably feel like screaming. Ancient pipes, poor purification practices and “cleansing” processes can result in the presence of chlorine, arsenic, pesticides, herbicides, hormones, fluoride, parasites and even heavy metals like lead and mercury.
My recommendation? Invest in a good quality water filter. Try to avoid distilled water and reverse osmosis filtration systems simply because they strip water of necessary minerals and are costly. Instead, opt for an activated alumina (bone char) filter or ion exchange resin deionizer. However, don’t take my word for it: do your own research. Your water will taste ten times better!
2. Lower your S.C.A.T intake
No… not that kind of scat! ;) S.C.A.T stands for Sugar, Caffeine, Alcohol and Tobacco. All of these substances drain the body of energy and thereby allow toxins to build up in the system. Reduce your intake as much as possible.
3. Eat the following superfoods
Start including more spirulina, chlorella, wheatgrass, kale, broccoli and raw cacao in your diet. I like to disguise mine in smoothies.
4. Only eat organic animal products
If your body allows you to be vegan/vegetarian, all the better for you, animals and the planet. On the other hand, try adopting a semi-vegetarian diet (also called “flexitarianism”). Eat animal products half of the week, and a vegetarian/vegan diet the other half. Try to avoid any type of fish or seafood product as they may contain traces of mercury. See how you go. Also, always ensure that the animal products you eat are organic, free-range and hormone free. One trick you may like to use is always checking the packet for the words “hormone free.” If they aren’t present, be skeptical.
5. Include garlic, citric acid and apple cider vinegar in your diet
Garlic, ACV and citric acid all help to cleanse excess toxins from your body, including the build-up of calcium. You may also like to drink half a lime or lemon in warm water every morning.
6. Make a beetroot, orange or grapefruit smoothie
Some fruits and vegetables are terrific for thoroughly cleaning you out. If you have a blender, move away from your usual smoothie recipes and try incorporating beetroot, or acidic fruits such as grapefruit and orange. You’ll also benefit from adding high antioxidant foods such as berries.
7. Replace your dental products
Go and check the ingredients of your toothpaste and/or mouthwash. Can you find any nasty ingredients there such as fluoride, PEG-60, sodium benzoate, propyl/methylparaben, etc.? If so, you need to find better alternatives. I use herbal toothpastes instead of traditional ones, and coconut oil instead of mouthwash. Coconut oil (known as “oil pulling”) is much more gentle on your teeth, much better for your body, and has natural antimicrobial properties. I recommend organic and unrefined coconut oil.
8. Buy organic
Wherever possible, try to replace normal pesticide covered fruits and vegetables with organic alternatives. Yes, this might mean that you pay more. And yes, this might mean that you have less options. But pesticides and herbicides are linked to pineal gland calcification — not to mention a host of other grizzly health issues. Try replacing one item per week with an organic alternative. On the other hand, if you’re extremely tight for money, make sure that you wash all of the fruit and veggies that you buy. This isn’t ideal, but at least it’ll do something. You can use a natural brew of bicarb soda and vinegar to do this.
9. Supplement with iodine
Iodine is a mineral that is present in sea vegetables such as seaweed (kelp). In the West, our diets lack iodine which is essential in assisting the thyroid gland regulate hormones. Iodine has been theorized to help flush out fluoride from the body, thus protecting the pineal gland. But here’s the thing: consuming lots of iodized salt won’t do much for you! Instead try consuming sea vegetables like wakame, kelp and algae. These can often be found as supplements at your local health food store or online.
10. Bentonite clay
Bentonite clay is composed of the ash from volcanoes and has been used by man and beast alike for detoxification purposes. As a magnetically-charged clay, bentonite “binds” to toxins within our bodies when ingested. These toxins — including heavy metals, chemicals and impurities — are then expelled through feces.
I use bentonite both as a face mask, and as an internal purifier. If you’re interested in experimenting with bentonite, make sure that you purchase food grade quality, (such as here). Also, because bentonite is electrically-charged, always use a plastic or wooden spoon when handling it. If the clay touches metal, it will lose its effectiveness.
You may like to begin with one teaspoon of bentonite clay mixed in water twice a week. Always pay attention to your body and what it needed. Too much clay ingestion can cause constipation.
Conclusion …
The pineal gland plays a vital role in our physical — and I would go so far as to say our spiritual — well-being. Learning how to decalcify your pineal gland could revolutionize the relationship you have with your body and with life.

Thank you, Luna. This was very engaging and I will look for coconut oil to use as a mouthwash, along with other tips. A yogi whom I know suggested to his followers to decalcify the pineal gland using tamarind. He used a drink he bought, but I found good capsules of 300 mg. tamarind so I used those. He suggests using it for only a month, though I’m not sure why. The tamarind binds to the fluoride and flushes it from the body.
I had a series of unfortunate events strike me throughout my life, then in 2012 I was head butted by an ex partner and hunted online by a pack of morons / blood thirsty animals. I went through all the proper channels and never stopped praying for help.
I started meditating but my anxiety increased as I moved house and workplaces to escape them. I was driving back home after a break away at the seaside with my mother and pulled over on a motorway whilst having a major panic attack; something popped in my mind and I was part of the singularity, in the infinity room / Akashic records for a good few minutes, I’d seen “God”. This was the start of my research into spiritual awakenings and the third eye. I have also gone back through history and seen how sacred knowledge has been hidden from us and how humankind has been living a lie for thousands of years since Roman / Cleopatra / Jesus times. I’m a pantheist and align with spirituality but I do believe not everyone is able to open theirs and for good reason. This may be the next stage of evolution. Those who do will lift the veil and see the human race for what it is with all the avoidable horrors inflicted and the murderous choices we continue to make. We have the technology and the know how to build a better world but are suspended by an outdated ponzi scheme / monarch societal system. The universe has mathematical and symmetrical patterns – Justice will always be served and balance restored. If you have a good heart you will find your way out of the darkness. Hi! I am a reiki practitioner and certified crystal healer. I have been compelled to use fluorite on the third eye numerous times. The crystal Fluorite naturally has “fluoride” in it. What are your thoughts on this.
Thanks for raising our awareness on this Luna :) You can also work with decalcifying the pineal gland through using a chant. It’s powerful, not to be underestimated, the word to use for this chant is: LOVE. Do it three nights in a row, take a breath and relax into saying the word for the full stretch of the breath. When you get to the “V” in LOVE, become aware of how the top teeth and bottom lip reverberate back into the brain. Do this only three times a night for three nights. Its best to be done at night as it can leave you feeling disorientated. After the three nights in a row, do it again only once 7 days later.
It worked amazing for me. At different points in that week I heard a crack in the area which felt to be my pineal gland, it felt like some sort of casing was being cracked off. My third eye abilities started to climb after that.
This definitely needs to be in conjunction with your above recommendations. If we keep creating the environment for calcification we’ll keep falling backwards into a closed third eye.

This is misleading because bone char is just charred bone. Activated alumina, on the other hand, is a far more scary thing – literally, Aluminium made super porous. Aluminium is not something I’d want anywhere near my water supply! – especially aluminium made super reactive by increasing its surface area.
Toothpaste and floride! Do we consume toothpaste?? We just brush and spit out the foam. Same with the mouth wash. How is toothpaste and mouth wash a culprit??? Just wondering.

In terms of hearing loss, Luna – was your hearing loss sudden? If so, intravenous magnesium may help. Hearing loss (apart from damage due to loud noises) is mostly being related these days to nutritional imbalances. One important factor is your iron levels (esp if you are vegearian/vegan). Low levels of iron in the blood, or anemia, can lead to severe health effects. The association between adverse health effects and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is nothing new to the scientific world. However, a team of researchers at the Pennsylvania State University now found that it may cause hearing loss too! So I would check your iron levels esp if you are female in the 30s or 40s age range.
There is also a condition known as “hidden hearing loss” which involves damage to the myelin sheath – the insulation layer that covers the neuronal axons in the ear. Myelin regenerates. Also may be caused by damage to the synapses connecting hair cells in the inner ear. If damage is due to loud noise, for example, then you want to get yourself some NAC (n-acetyl-cysteine) – this combines the 2 remarkable nutrients – alpha lipoic acid (ALA) and acetyl-l-carnitine (the latter of which can be deficient in veg/vegan diets) – this can help repair ear damage caused by loud noises and also boosts your primary antioxidant – glutathione. If you have ringing or whistling in your ears, then gingko biloba will help. Luteolin is another powerful antioxidant that (as with ALA) is one of the few antioxidants that can pass the BBB (blood-brain barrier).
It may also be that your hearing is changing due to body upgrades!

it is funny how people associated with modern medicine – western-style- tell people that a vegan diet will cause anemia and many other things… I used to have persistent anemia during my ‘animal product’ eating but with a much more healthier diet and life style than others still… however, after I became vegan and 2 years into being vegan, doctor tested me for anemia again just because he heard I am vegan and he added to the test, not because I suspected this time… First time ever in my life, I was not anemic after 2 years of vegan diet!! And actually my results showed a well-stocked iron. I don’t take any supplement. Animal products cause problems in iron absorbtion this is proven fact however, people in medicine still refuse to accept this during their practical evaluation of vitamins/minerals of different diets. I don’t know third-eye open or closed, but I can tell now 3rd year in being a vegan – with an effort to be a healthy one -eating vegetables and grains, and legumes… my consciousness about anything in the world, my compassion and empathy, my insignts and wisdom all increased. Now, after a life of 37 years of animal based diet, in 3 year of vegan diet, I cannot believe I did contribute to animal abuse and ate their corpses and stole baby cow’s milk… All sounds terrible, no one can take me back to my old life.
I have hearing loss from an accident many years ago – head trauma and am deaf in my left ear from nerve damage. I have since had Tinnitus – ringing and constant sound in my ear. Can you offer any assistance with helping this please? sometimes it can be very loud. it is constant – a couple of times it has stopped altogether and it has amazed me how quiet everything became! most of the time I am not aware of it until it stopped and then it was bliss! unfortunately it only lasted a few minutes each time.
Thanks for the article – good to see this topic being discussed. I was also pleased to see that one of the other commenters mentioned EMF effects. There is a huge cover-up going on there (as usual) re EMFs. I study natural medicine and so have some further comments tht others may find helpful. Another finding of independent science is that EMFs act on the VGCCs of our cells (voltage gated calcium channels) – this effectively means that the safety standards for mobile phones etc. are under-estimated by about 700-fold! The VGCCs exist on virtually every cell in your body and are more sensitive to EMFs than other parts of the cell. Basically, the EMF overload holds your calcium channels open for much longer than they should, which likely results in excess calcium in our cells. As you know, everyone needs good vitamin D levels. Optimum vitamin D levels will also allow the body to absorb more calcium. So, basically, for both issues, my recommendation would be to ensure you have adequate (probably much higher than recommended) levels of magnesium in your body. Magnesium is the mineral that balances calcium in the body – in fact, it is nature’s calcium channel blocker! Unlike pharmaceutical drugs, magnesium acts with intelligence within the body – when calcium is required by the cell, the Mg simply moves to one side (which doesn’t happen with the drugs – they just turn your calcium channels into spaghetti – hence, hard to come off) and then moves into place again to block the channel as required. Thus, in order to both counter calcification AND to protect yourself against EMFs, I recommend getting that magnesium into you! For the other commenter on EMFs, the main reason the wi-fi is worse for you is to do with the “pulsing” activitiy of wi-fi, to my understanding.
The other nutrient I would immediately mention here would be vitamin K2! Most doctors have not even heard of this (although many seem to be aware of K1, the clotter) possibly as there is currently NO blood test for K2 developed. Vitamin K2 would be great for you Luna – K2 is effectively the body’s “traffic cop” for calcium – this means that it will even go into places where calcium should not be and it will remove it and ensure the excess calcium is directed to the bones and teeth where it should be (not in your arteries or your pineal). K2 can best be provided by fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi, and coconut kefir (they’re the main ones I go for, although Kvass (beetroot) would also be great). Foods are better in my view where possible, but if taking a K2 supplement, the one to look for is the MK-7. The best that I’ve heard of though is a supplement called Activator X. If you have calcification, I really recommend you get onto this. Remember IF you use probiotics from a supplement then they must be FED (prebiotics) otherwise they won’t last long. Drinking pomegranate juice would also be very helpful in this regard as they have studied this for de-calcifying arteries and it also increases blood flow.
Further to that, (and I could clearly write a whole article on this!) – I recommend consuming whole turmeric (organic & tested to be free of toxic metal contamination). If you take it with a fat and black pepper, it absorbs better (absorption is the main issue with using the whole spice) – I like to use mine mainly with eggs or avocado, but I also make a drink (look up recipe for the Ayurvedic drink “Golden Milk.”).
Both oregano (organic and wild is best) essential oil and neem extract will decalcify the pineal gland as well as acting as a natural antibiotic against new calcium shells created by nanobacteria.
Iodine will improve the removal of sodium fluoride – best foods are kale, broccoli, almonds, oranges, flax seed, sesame seeds, dill, thyme and other dried herbs (apart from the sea veg mentioned) – so increase these foods if you are taking supplemental iodine. It is also recommended that a non-GMO lecithin supplement is also taken to complement iodine intake.
Boron will also remove calcium from the body and can be found in beetroot and dried plums.
Other possibilities? Organic Blue Ice Skate Fish Oil may apparently be one of the most powerful options out there. This oil contains the activator X mentioned above. It is recommended that activator X be taken with vitamin A and D3 (i.e. most of your fat-soluble vitamins need to be taken together – esp A, D & K). Take these with fatty foods and you will absorb more.
Alkaline foods will also help decalcify the pineal. Basically you need minerals! Also cilantro, tamarind, gogi berries, watermelon, bananas, honey, coconut oil, hemp seeds, seaweed, noni juice, garlic, chaga mushrooms & raw lemon juice – all great for decalcifying and improving the pineal.
I would personally ditch the dairy as far as possible (as recent science seems to suggest the calcium is not absorbed well & there are other issues with some of it) and stick to dark leafy greens and other products for your source of calcium.
Meditations to support this chakra (6th) and clear it are also great.
Also perhaps relevant to you Luna – if you’ve had an MRI, you may wish to check if gandolinium was injected into you as a contrast medium? If so, this has apparently been the source of shutting one person’s open 3rd eye down after they had an MRI! So one needs to be additionally mindful of virtually ALL conventional medicine practices. Many pharmaceutical drugs can cause vitamin, mineral and enzyme deficiencies over time.

If your pineal is blocked then it will have no energy source. Try meditating with your eyes closed and sending the energy from your eyes by concentrating your focus on the area of the forehead where the pineal resides. Your BELIEF is also important and ensuring you aren’t being “blocked” by negativity from others also or limiting beliefs.

Wow! Ok, I had “faith” the your brain could be calcified but I never truly believed because I didn’t have any, I guess, mainstream evidence. But if you got a report from the hospital that your brain may be experiencing calcification, that means the phenomenon is legitimate. Incredible.

I dont agree that anybody should avoid home distilled water. Please do your research on distilled water it has been found to have miraculous effects! Filtered water doesnt get rid of all the rubbish they put into our drinking water. Andrew Norton Webber is a wealth of knowledge and information on this. Also listen to what he says on alkaline water its actually very bad for you. The body needs to be the one spending the fuels we put in and turning them alkaline. Drinking anything alkaline he says is like drinking death because you’re drinking spent fuel which is unusable for the body. Check out youtube there’s a lot of others saying the same thing. I find Andrew Norton Webbers videos facinating.

“If your body allows you to be vegan/vegetarian” is an absolutely preposterous thing to say. That our bodies allow us to eat animal products at all is a testament to its tolerance.
I agree that calcification of the pineal gland from the above sources is an issue, but we must also not rule out the effects the physical environment has on our bodies. The majority of us now live in a sea of ‘electrosmog’ created by the high EMF (Electromagnetic frequency) output from cell phones, Wi-Fi, cell phone masts etc. and even electricity (dirty electricity.) There is a growing global illness called electro-hypersensitivity which studies show already affect 5% of the population and it is growing. 70% of non industry science studies are showing negative biological affects on the body from these frequencies, Wi-Fi appears to be more negative on the body (possibly because this frequency is so low, it is very close to that of our bodies own frequencies). Look at reducing your exposure and try not to sleep in a high EMF environment as melatonin production and delta brain frequencies can be affected (it depends on your biological make up whether you are affected) and ‘Earth’ frequently to connect to the natural ‘hertz’ of the earth (the same frequency as our bodies)…and eat high antioxidant foods to repair the oxiditative stress caused to our bodies, if you feel quite affected you can also shield your sleeping area. My partner has EHS and as a result we have met many others with the condition and it has opened up a whole new journey of healing, physically and mentally…water has been part of the healing journey… we drink high alkaline spring water PH 8.2 as recommended by Professor Dominic Bel Pomme (ARTAC) which I decant into a glass bottle and ‘clear’ and ‘charge’ using a BioGeometry tray before drinking. Complete calcification is rare Scarlett, but thankfully you can start making changes. Getting started and getting the motivation is really hard at first. But push yourself, and you will feel good that you’re taking care of yourself. I think of it as a form of self-love.
A good place to start is cutting back on your S.C.A.T intake. Then you can slowly move on to the other steps.

Wow!! I really like this post. I don’t know if you have heard of Body Talk, but the concepts are similar to reiki or chakra balancing. A lot of my sessions mention my pineal gland/3rd eye is blocked. Reading this makes sense because I do have strong cravings for sugar. This could be a symptom of my CFS or simply addiction. Also, did you find out what the cause of your hearing loss is from? Is it permanent? I ask because I am hearing impaired due to sensinorial (sp?) hearing loss from birth. I can understand trying to adjust in the hearing and silent world. I came across with the existence of the pineal gland recently the past year, not for its spiritual properties at first, but for its regulation of the sleep.
I found by chance the term Delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS), and describes my sleep patterns.
I laughed at first for the definition of DSPS for something that always was natural for me.
But just after that, at the end of last october, I started with real problems of sleep. Like struggling with some dreams and wake up more tired than when I went to sleep. That sort of problems.
Certainly I will incorporate more of this recommendations!

That’s true. It’s expensive buying bottled spring water all the time though.
If you can find a natural spring where you live, all the better for you. (Although obviously it’s hard to tell how pure it would be.) Like Scarlett below mentioned, bottled water is expensive. Not to mention really bad for the environment and landfill.
