What is Spiritual Oneness (or "Wholeness")?

Here’s the thing: spiritual Oneness is your birthright.

Deep down, you know this. I know this. We all know this. Something about it resonates deep within your bones.

“But isn’t Oneness something reserved for the spiritually advanced or elite?” we tend to protest. “Don’t I have to be worthy to earn it?”

Spiritual Wanderer Course:

Being a lone wolf and a spiritual wanderer is a sacred calling in life โ€“ a unique and alchemical path of awakening. You donโ€™t need to feel lost, alone, or stuck on your journey any more. Itโ€™s time to meet your soulโ€™s deep needs for clarity, self-acceptance, and empowerment. Let us show you how โ€ฆ

Nope.

Experiences of spiritual Oneness can come spontaneously or after years of vigorous spiritual practice. There doesn’t seem to be a consistent, objective pattern.

But the truth is that Oneness can be felt by anyone. Thereโ€™s no secret or elite club here. No matter what age, gender, race, background, intellect, or level of spiritual development you have, Oneness is your destiny. In other words, not only do you have the right to experience it, but it is an integral part of your journey as a spiritual seeker. And ultimately, in the words of the wise sage Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, you are That.

In this article, Iโ€™m going to explain the best ways to directly feel and embody this sacred Original state of being โ€“ the essence of your True Nature.

What is Oneness?

Image of a starry night sky symbolic of oneness

Oneness is an experience that transcends the mind. When we experience Oneness, we feel a connection with everything in existence on every level. In other words, we feel โ€˜at oneโ€™ with all things.

Another way to put it is that Oneness is the feeling of fullness, vastness, and completion โ€“ it is the experience of embodying our true nature, the Self that exists beyond our limited personalities (also known as our egos).

Other names for Oneness often include Non-Dual Awareness, Unity, Buddha-Nature, Christ-Consciousness, and Enlightenment.

Why is it So Hard to Experience Oneness?

Image of a man thinking and struggling to experience wholeness
Our minds fragment life.

Put simply, the reason why it’s so difficult and rare for us to experience Oneness and wholeness is that our minds won’t let us.

While our minds help us to plan, imagine, create, structure and logically understand life, they also simultaneously fragment existence. When life is broken down into thoughts, concepts, ideas, and beliefs, we cannot directly experience the Oneness of everything. Instead, we perceive life through a broken lens. Until we can take off those cracked glasses, we will continue to see ourselves as isolated and separate little entities who see the world in black and white.

The problem is that most of us have forgotten that we are wearing those cracked glasses. We live most of our lives believing that we are our thoughts and limited mental identities. Weโ€™re kind of like fish who have forgotten what the concept of water is. The only reality we have been conditioned to live in is the one dominated by the mind. We forget that weโ€™re so much more than our thoughts and mental stories. We lose touch with our true nature.

Contrary to popular belief, Oneness is not a โ€œspecialโ€ experience โ€“ it’s actually the most natural and normal state of being possible. But from the perspective of the mind, it seems truly novel and exciting because it’s such a rarity!

Splitting & Inner Fragmentation

Because our minds dominate so much of our lives we also tend to feel internally fragmented. The nature of the mind is to seek understanding and safety. And to understand life and be safe, we must see some things as โ€œgoodโ€ and some things as โ€œbad.โ€ Splitting life into good/bad and right/wrong is a very natural process because it helps us to survive. If we didnโ€™t have the capacity to split life into opposites, we wouldnโ€™t be able to understand that stepping in front of oncoming traffic is fatal (or โ€œbadโ€) and letting our children play with knives is dangerous (โ€œbadโ€).

But at the same time, splitting life into polarities also creates tremendous suffering in us. Why? Because we grow up learning that some parts of us are โ€œgoodโ€ while other parts of us are โ€œbad.โ€ We then attach to the โ€œgoodโ€ parts of ourselves and repress or deny the โ€œbadโ€ parts of ourselves.

What happens when we start to perceive ourselves in a fragmented way? The answer is that we feel flawed, lacking, โ€œnot good enough,โ€ and incomplete. We start to feel insecure, anxious, lonely, depressed, and in some extreme cases suicidal. Our essence has been diluted. We feel fake and inauthentic. Emptiness haunts us. We greatly crave to love and embrace ourselves, but how can we fully accept who we are when we hate some parts of ourselves and love other parts?

This is why spiritual integration is so important. Integration is the opposite of fragmentation. When we integrate, we unite different parts of ourselves that may have been missing for years or decades. When we seek integration, we are seeking Oneness and wholeness. Weโ€™ll explore the subject of integration more a little later.

Ultimately, Oneness and wholeness seem so alien to us because we perceive our inner and external worlds through the fragmented lens of the mind. And by the way โ€ฆ the whole concept of an inner and outer world is itself a division created by the mind! Do you see how deeply embedded into our realities the mind and its concepts are?

Is Oneness the Same as Enlightenment?

Image of a mandala that symbolizes oneness

Like Oneness, the term โ€˜enlightenmentโ€™ is also thrown around a lot on the spiritual path. But are they the same thing? Yes. In my perspective, they are the same thing. However, I donโ€™t like using the phrase enlightenment because itโ€™s such a loaded word.

Would you like to save this?

We'll email this article to you, so you can come back to it later!

Your information will never be shared.

Oneness to me feels more embodied. I personally resonate way more with this term than enlightenment which seems very cerebral and overly focused on the โ€œlightโ€ aspect of existence, which itself is one-sided. In my experience, the point of our existence as humans is about embracing both our humanity AND divinity โ€“ not just focusing on the โ€œlove and lightโ€ aspects of spirituality which bypass anything too raw and real.

The spiritual journey is not just about ascending. We also need to descend. We need to dive into the dark waters of our minds and do some soul-searching. We need to get comfortable with the blood, dirt, and grit of being human. To avoid our wild side is to avoid, deny, and disown a major and essential aspect of us: our divine and messy humanity. As such, wherever possible I try to avoid the phrase ‘enlightenment’ as it seems too lopsided. Oneness (or ‘wholeness’) feels more holistic and realistic โ€“ these terms feel truer. But ultimately, no words can truly describe the experience that is being pointed to here. That, to me, is the most essential thing to remember.

Oneness and the Spiritual Awakening Journey

For most spiritual seekers, Oneness is the motivating drive to go on the inner journey. We may have experienced a moment of utter freedom and union with all of Life. Or perhaps there’s a painful longing to ‘return home’ (i.e., to the state of Oneness). But whatever the case, Oneness is at the very core of the spiritual awakening journey.

Like a mandala, our journey takes us around the axis with the hopes that one day, by Divine Grace, we will unite with the center of it โ€“ the center representing spiritual self-realization or Oneness.

How to Experience Oneness (5 Paths)

Image of a woman sitting in front of a moon experiencing oneness and wholeness
There is no “instant bliss” pill for experiencing oneness and wholeness.

I want to be realistic and clear with you here: the tools and practices Iโ€™ll be recommending arenโ€™t an โ€œinstant blissโ€ pill. I would caution you to be careful of anyone who tries to sell you โ€œenlightenment-in-5-easy-stepsโ€ because thereโ€™s no such thing. Oneness isnโ€™t like instant noodles. Iโ€™m not going to churn out some Buzzfeed, clickbait advice because that would dishonor how truly deep the path of Oneness is. Countless people have spent their entire lives on this path.

So with the utmost respect for the true commitment and sincerity needed for this path, I offer you five helpful paths. There are countless practices out there, but I have included only those that I have personally experienced and found helpful. So I encourage you to both pay attention to and also look beyond the scope of the tools presented here.

1. Meditation and mindfulness

Yes, this might seem cliche, but just because meditation and mindfulness have entered the mainstream market it doesnโ€™t mean that they lack true value.

Certainly, the approach many modern teachers have towards meditation is secularized and watered-down. But there are many ancient techniques โ€“ such as Vipassana (thought awareness) and Anapanasati (breathing awareness) meditation โ€“ which help you to gain direct insight into the nature of your mind.

Mindfulness is another simple way of gaining access to the experience of Oneness. Mindfulness means paying attention to the present moment. Ironically, mindFULLness is less about the mind and more about sharpening your awareness and ability to live in the present moment. More accurately, it can be thought of mindLESSness (without the negative connotations). Many glimpses of peace and inner wholeness can be experienced through these two popular practices.

2. Solitary nature immersion

Spending time alone surrounded by nature is another beautiful way of accessing a state of wholeness and Oneness. Training yourself to simply observe nature as a passive form of meditation is nourishing to the soul and can fill you with a sense of inner peace. I have found myself so soothed by the presence of trees and birds around me that I have temporarily become One with everything around me. Nature immersion is a powerful practice for many mental and physical ailments, so it is worth experimenting with.

3. Mind-altering plant medicine

Powerful and life-changing moments of Oneness are common to experience while taking various forms of plant medicine. If youโ€™re interested in exploring this path, I recommend seeking out a genuine shaman or spiritual guide who can support you through such experiences as they can often be intense and overwhelming. (On that note, itโ€™s best to keep away from any type of plant medicine if you have a severe mental illness.)

Examples of plant medicine include ayahuasca, San Pedro, psilocybin mushrooms, peyote, DMT, and marijuana. How do these plants help us experience moments or periods of Oneness? The answer is that they temporarily remove, alter, or distort the fragmented lens of the mind. Once the veil of our limited perception has been removed, there is space for us to experience a more whole and integrated version of reality.

I can frankly say that plant medicine has changed my life. I have had some intense and paradigm-shifting experiences of ego death and merging with all of existence. Skeptics suggest that such experiences are meaningless hallucinations, but these profound glimpses into the Ultimate Reality have been validated by my own sober everyday experience. The only thing I can say is that you must experience itย to believe it. If you havenโ€™t tried plant medicine yet, I recommend doing some thorough research and giving it a try.

4. Inner work that focuses on integration

There are many forms of inner work, but not all of them focus on exploring, accepting, and integrating the repressed and rejected parts of you. While this path can be slow, it is โ€“ in my perspective and experience โ€“ the deepest work you can do. There are no quick fixes here. To have more than a fleeting glimpse of Oneness, you must make the unconscious conscious. As luminary Carl Jung once said:

Spiritual Awakening Bundle cover

Spiritual Awakening Bundle:

โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ "Luna & Sol, your words have been like salve to my soul. I have been searching for a way to heal and reconnect to my true self for so long (20 years) but have never found anything that truly made a differenceโ€ฆ Until I read your books." โ€“ Stac

Wholeness is not achieved by cutting off a portion of one’s being, but by integration of the contraries.

We must seek to reunite with the lost parts of ourselves and develop psychological balance. Only then can we experience authentic spiritual Oneness. Examples of integration-centered inner work include shadow work and inner child work.

5. REAL Self-love, compassion, and acceptance

Love is the most expansive feeling and reality there is. When we truly and genuinely love someone or something from the depths of our being, all barriers are torn down. All mental constructs are obliterated. All division disintegrates. All that remains is openness, expansiveness, and yes, the experience of Oneness.

As humans having a spiritual experience we have a complex relationship with ourselves that is often defined by extreme highs and lows. Sometimes we think weโ€™re the catโ€™s pajamas, and other times we feel like a pile of turd. But if we can manage to embrace both the highs and lows and truly understand the nature of our minds, we can experience real self-love, and learn how to love ourselves more.

When we can embrace both our humanity and divinity, we can experience self-compassion and self-acceptance. These qualities and practices are essential on the spiritual path. Without learning to love ourselves in all our weirdness and sacred wildness, itโ€™s impossible to fully open to the experience of wholeness and Oneness.

9 Inspiring Oneness Quotes

Image of an intricate brown mandala

To end this article, I’ll leave you with a few other perspectives on Oneness spoken by ancient and modern poets, sages, mystics, and religious scriptures:

For those who are awake the cosmos is one. โ€” Heraclitus

See the One โ€” know the One

and affirm that it is One

Whether at the beginning or at the end,

all of this is only one single thing

Alas the eye of man sees double.

โ€” Attar from The Book of Secrets

Oneness is not a metaphysical idea but something so simple and ordinary. It is in every breath, in the wing-beat of every butterfly, in every piece of garbage left in the city streets. This oneness is life, life no longer experienced solely through the fragmented vision of the ego, but known within the heart, felt in the soul. This oneness is the heartbeat of life. It is creationโ€™s recognition of its Creator. In this oneness life celebrates itself and its divine origin.

โ€” Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee

A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. The true value of a human being is determined primarily by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self. We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humanity is to survive. โ€” Albert Einstein

How can the divine Oneness be seen?

In beautiful forms, breathtaking wonders,

awe-inspiring miracles?

The Tao is not obliged to present itself

in this way.

If you are willing to be lived by it, you will

see it everywhere, even in the most

ordinary things. โ€” Lao Tzu

How wonderful that a single Essence should

Refract itself like light, a single source

Into a million essences and hues.

โ€” Shรขh Neโ€™matollรขh from The Drunken Universe

When you make the two one and

When you make the inner as the outer and the above

As below, and when

You make the male and the female into a single one

Then you shall enter the kingdom.

โ€” The Gospel of Thomas

In the beginning was only Being,

One without a second.

Out of himself he brought forth the cosmos

And entered into everything in it.

There is nothing that does not come from him.

Of everything he is the innermost Self.

He is the truth; he is the Self supreme.

You are that, Shvetaketu; you are that.

Merge in the sea and become one with it,

Forgetting they were ever separate streams,

So do all creatures lose their separateness

When they merge at last into pure Being.

There is nothing that does not come from him.

Of everything he is the innermost Self.

He is the truth; he is the Self supreme.

You are that, Shvetaketu; you are that!

โ€“ Chandogya Upanishad

A hundred things

a million or more

if you look to their reality

are one

โ€” Fakhruddin Iraqi

A CUCKOO LETTER FROM THE HEAVENS

For the past few months, my life has undergone an unexpected twist and turn that has flipped my world upside down and beyond.
Five months ago, I went to Latin America and went thru a retreat in the Andes Mountains in Peru.
Life as they say is the most unpredictable. Life is alive! It is constantly moving, changing and transforming into different directions, shapes and forms.
And little did I know that I would be experiencing first hand of one of Lifeโ€™s Greatest Riddles & Mysteries – DEATH.
I must say, death is the most humbling divine experience of any living creation existing in this infinite realms of Divine Energy.

It was mid afternoon during the retreat that I suddenly felt something was a miss. I was extremely feeling dizzy and had hard time catching up with my breath. And just like that I clearly knew and felt I WAS DYING.

As I was going thru this ordeal, I was extremely terrified. I wasnโ€™t ready to die. I was even shouting. I am not going to die! I was struggling to breathe. And I underwent a roller coaster ride of emotions and feelings of anger towards my self and regret for not listening to the previous warnings of not going to the said retreat. I was pleading and crying for help to the people around me to save me.
And every one around me started panicking too.
The retreat house was located at the foothills of a mountain and there was no transportation available at that time. Itโ€™s a far and rough place to reach.

And within minutes, i was extremely feeling dizzy. Then I collapsed on the ground.
I was feeling very very cold. My body started convulsing.I was having the hardest time to breathe. It felt like there was no air coming inside my body. Suddenly my heart stopped from beating.

As I crossover to a different realm, I underwent what they call โ€œjudgmentโ€. I call it โ€œpurificationโ€ instead. I remember, no one is there to judge me except my own presence. All the thoughts, emotions, feelings, actions that I experienced when I was still alive were presented before me. Itโ€™s an understanding that I created everything that Iโ€™ve experienced in my life – good, bad, sad, happy, anger, pain, joy, suffering etc etc… I created everything. I created my reality. And that I am fully accountable and wholly responsible to every moment and second of my life on earth. That I chose every thing that happened in my life whether I am conscious or not.
And I one by one, had to acknowledge then accept that it is I who chose it to happen and understand every lesson behind it. I had to purify every thing until it becomes like a pure light/energy and later on surrender and release and bless it. I understood that everything is borrowed and has to be given back to The Sacred Divine Light/Energy as an offering.

The โ€œjudgment/purification โ€œ was simultaneously happening while I was catching my last breathes. It was like my Consciousness and Awareness were expanding and contracting simultaneously. Alternating from my limited consciousness as a person to a limitless consciousness as a living boundless energy.
The purification process is the most intense experience Iโ€™ve ever had. It took me to different stages – from denial to resistance to anger/guilt to acknowledgement to acceptance to understanding to surrendering to gratitude/love then finally blessing/offering.

After the โ€œpurificationโ€, I finally understood that it was my perfect time to go and bless the life that was given to me. IT WAS A PERFECT DEATH.
I finally understood that I canโ€™t take anything with me except the โ€œpure light/energyโ€ that I was before I came here on earth.
As I took my last breathe, I vividly remember looking at the eyes of an elder gently holding my hands with tears in his eyes and silently saying โ€œITโ€™S OK. LET GOโ€. As I close my eyes with deep understanding and acceptance of my fate here on earth – I expressed my love to all my loved ones and blessing the life that was given to me. I even remember saying these words (my heart is now speaking too) – Thank you. A WELL LIVED LIFE Jetro Vin Rafael.
As I gasp for my last breathe, my last thoughts were –
LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH.
(A sincere prayer and my way of honoring the Humanity that I was part of and also blessing Mother Earth who nurtured me while I was still living in her arms. A prayer that Humanity and Mother Earth may coexist harmoniously one day.

and the next thing I know, I was slowly infused and engulfed by absolute Lightness and Love and Peace. The Gates of the Eternal Heavens opened up. I could not believe what I was experiencing.
    HEAVEN/NIRVANA IS REAL.
I was welcomed. And I have an absolute remembering that this is my real home. That I am finally Home. I remember hearing the most beautiful symphonies. Everything is infused with light, harmony, perfection, magnificence and divinity beyond the worldly realm that Iโ€™ve ever known.

The consciousness that was limited (me as a person/ego) became limitless. I became part of everything that has ever existed, existing and will ever exist. I am now beyond and more intimate with life. I feel the whole energy of life vibrating in me. I now feel all my loved ones I left on earth and every single sentient being who has lived and graced life on earth. Every thing is alive and is inside of me. They are me and I am them. And feel the presence of everything. Time and space were transcended. Everything is connected. Everything is infinite. There is no linear time and separation. Past. Present. Future and Beyond. Everything is existing in ONE ETERNAL PRESENCE.
We are all one. Heaven. Nirvana. Bliss. This is our real nature. This is who we are. Absolute love. Absolute peace.
Earth. Planets. Stars. Galaxies and Universes beyond time and space are no longer a distant place to be. It has become part of me. Everything is now infused with divine love, light and eternal life.

As I stayed in this state of divine eternal consciousness, i jokingly told to The Divine Presence (which is also me and you and everything that there is which we call – God). I said Iโ€™m going back to earth.
How about the pain & suffering? (some may call this state as hell). I said โ€œitโ€™s ok! Iโ€™m willing to take itโ€. I really wanted to let human beings know that heaven/nirvana is real. And that earth is also a part and an extension of heaven.
And knowing that everything is equally and divinely magnificent.
It didnโ€™t matter if Iโ€™m going back and live as a single leaf of a tree or a single grain of a sand. Everything is holy, magnificent and divine.

The next thing that I remember, I was gagging as if I got out from drowning. And I was extremely feeling thirsty.
And the first words that came out from my mouth was, โ€œI am alive!โ€. And people around me was looking bewildered, perplexed and yet happy and joyously relieved. And immediately asking me if I want to be brought to the hospital. I figured out later that they were trying to call an ambulance the whole time. Someone gave me a glass of water which I immediately drank and someone gave me a fruit which I canโ€™t identify. I asked, what kind of fruit that is, he said itโ€™s an orange. An orange?! And I was just staring at it. I am now confused how to eat it. And I asked him, how do I eat this? Then he laughed at me. He then asked, do you remember what your name is?
    And I answered casually โ€ I A M L I F E โ€ .

From that moment on, it seemed like I do not have a person in me. I was feeling the oneness of Everything around me. From the air to the sun to every blade of grass and trees and sounds of everything around me. I feel one and connected to Life.
Everything is so blissful, peaceful and light. Then I slowly remembered what had happened. Everybody was still in silence. Nobody was talking to me. And at that time, nothing mattered or bothered me. I was feeling just peaceful and joyful that I am alive. When I saw the elderly man who previously hold my hand, I told him, I die didnโ€™t I? Now I am alive. And I was laughing. I keep on saying โ€œI am alive!โ€.

And he still seemed in disbelief of what just happened and happening. He told me, what happened is just between me and God. And tears has flowed again from his eyes. This time around, itโ€™s a tear of joy and relief.

I just celebrated my 40th birthday.
And I have a joke that I will die at the age of 40 and it happened. Whether it is a self fulfilling prophecy or not. It doesnโ€™t matter now. What matters most is the present moment that I get to live and experience here on earth.
If there is one thing that I would love to share is that
    HEAVEN/NIRVANA IS REAL.
That heaven is also found here on earth and that we need not to die to experience it. That every single being here on earth already holds the key to the Gates of Heaven.
We are the living divine pure energies that make up the Eternal Heavens. Each and every one of us is already A SACRED PIECE OF HEAVEN.

This was beautiful. This happened to me, the part of being connected to everything that exists from here to the universe. The feeling of pureness, Oneness, wholeness. I will forever remember the night of this awakening (March 4, 2022). I loved reading this comment for I have searched and searched for those who may have experienced this beautiful enriched wholeness.

I have experienced this as a result of falling in love! I saw the love I was expressing reflected back to me like a mirror. Then, not only was this realisation of self love not transformational enough, the light reflected expansively, illuminating everything. I had moments revelling in this extremely sensual cosmic bliss, a sustained happiness that I was whole. That the universe is one, that everything is of love.

I then had a come down which made me feel as if I was returning to my previous state. But, following this, I went through a great deal of childhood trauma processing, experiencing ‘ego death’ (though I didn’t know this at the time)!

By the way, this is not something to be taken lightly, in my opinion. If you go looking for answers, expect that you may have some extremely disturbing times in your exploration towards finding solutions. Don’t feel you need to go it alone, because you’re certainly not. Seek support, it’s out there.

Buddhism has been a lifeline for me, but obviously everyone will find comfort in ways that work for them. There may be things you’ve gravitated towards before but didn’t quite get to grips with, which might be right for you now. Explore, but don’t get unhealthily infatuated with personal development like I did!

I felt as though I was completely adrift, having no anchor, no grounding. I had lost all concept of myself as I was discovering how much I differentiated from behaviours I had adopted as a result of trauma.

I’m currently enjoying the process of discovering my true self and appreciating each moment, as I attempt to find emotional balance following this most intensely turbulent episode! I’m ready to truly live my life now, in my own time and my own way, without all of those things previously holding me back. I have acceptance, compassion, confidence, and so much love for everything.

Really appreciate this site and how it’s kept me from spinning out during my darkest times. Thank you.

I have put a large emphasis on my spiritual journey for several months now, but I have only had glimpses of this oneness while smoking weed. I want to be able to strengthen this feeling and have it last much longer, but I think I still need a lot more practice. But the glimpses I have gotten have been beautiful, where my inner and outer worlds have bridged together completely and I realize everything is me and I am everything experiencing itself

Thank you Hannah for sharing. I feel many people are initiated into these experiences through substances like weed, it’s a valuable glimpse. It can have its downsides as non-substance-induced experiences like this are more subtle, but longer-lasting. I think ultimately, accessing this naturally seems to be the wisest way forward after we’ve experienced it through substances as the substance can become a crutch and create false mental expectations of what to look for.

I can kinda relate to what you’re saying. But it can be like bliss, that feeling when the top of you’re head opens up, you expand and you feel a deep connection with the Sun and everything, or like there is a presence there. But I had a similar experience too, where it brought a very strong, existential like fear up with it, at the same moment! It’s happened during meditation and during my initial ‘awakening’ but it happens spontaneously too and is difficult for the mind to interpret or put into words after. It’s like God is seducing you with bliss and joy or ‘something.’ I’ve felt jaded too and like a desire to return home or somewhere. Its comforting to realise that I’m not just going crazy, thank you!

Thank you Greg. I like bliss as a way of referring to it too, though I’ve often been averse to using it due to the many misunderstandings associated with the word, it’s almost treated like a deeper variation of ‘happiness’. What brings bliss, or the state of oneness, is a relief from the burden within of feeling like a separate self from existence which I feel is what most of these wisdom paths refer to in one way or another.

For the last two years I have had a complete shift in my mind, my thoughts are slower my awareness is sharp as hell.
As well as an inner peace I canโ€™t describe sort of like a feeling of pure blissfulness that is constant, I also hear the silence behind the noise sort of like a flowing stream very quietly mind, however itโ€™s alway there.

Other practises or paths include….Learning to draw, learning the different ways we perceive (see) our world. This can include learning the basics of proportion, form, line, volume and distance. But after many attempts, and a life time of fun with the principles of drawing in the classical way, we can experience and experiment with developing methods and means, going indoor for the rules and principles, and outdoor into nature for a mind blowing over whelming experience where all the rules do not seem quite good enough to use to fill what the eye perceives and the mind contemplates as being fair game for a study or two. But once again after many years of head scratching and trial and error experimentation, you start to experience the art as an extension (or invisible extension of your self) where you develop your own interpretation or your own way of seeing the world both as it is to most people, and as it is, a complex whirl of ever changing patterns of energy and form. It can mirror the world, but also the inner spiritual states, showing other dimensional prototypes, eg psychological dream states, states of emotion, cosmic mindless states where pencil, hand and mind become one…ONENESS! So yes the art of drawing, and looking can train the Spiritualist’s eye, and be a joyous extension to the soul as you reflect upon your small creative pursuits and learn heaps about your self in the process… namaste Blessing to all creative Spiritual people.

Thank you John for the additional technique to try. I haven’t tried it myself, but I can see how drawing or painting would be another modality to learn the art of ‘seeing’ as many grounded nature paths call it, including the Australian Aborigines. I’ve approached the path for a long time from the mental angle, as I get older I’m appreciating more the sensory and heart-based approaches.

Thanks for the article on Oneness. I had this experience during an archeological dig in the Middle East end eighties. I was digging in a well from the year 2 Common Era where I dug up beautiful items including jewelry and all of a sudden I felt this calm and everything made sense, everything was one, there was no past, no future, just that moment. I felt deep thankfulness and happiness. Since then in search for that feeling, but alas..

Thanks Lotte for describing that peak experience, it sounds like a powerful taste of what’s described here.

I feel one of the obstacles is attempting to recreate those experiences, there’s a difference between these intense mystical experiences and the oneness spoken of here, which is much more subtle in nature.

A permanent shift in perception, expansiveness, fluidity of sense of self. These are closer to the qualities necessary, and much more realistic to ‘achieve’ ( for lack of a better word.) From what I’ve experienced, very few people, if any, live in a permanent state of oneness which is what our minds try to replicate as an ideal.

        Beloved Luna and Sol,

Although this is not a specific post in relation to this very useful article, I would however, just like to take the opportunity to thank you both from the bottom of my heart for the very important work and selfless service that you continue to provide.
Your honest, well rounded and inspired teachings provided real comfort for me when during and whilst facing some of the most challenging and darkest nights of my soul.
So, with this in mind may your lights continue to shine so very brightly within the most darkest of places. And may your wisdom continue to help heal, integrate and bless life.

        Thank you
        All my love and blessings
        Steve

          Dear Steve,

We’re both touched by your lovely comment. It’s a great blessing to hear our work can serve as a lighthouse for those who are going through turbulent waters, sometimes knowing others have navigated these oceans is all that we need.

With great joy we teach just as much as we learn in this offering that is what we share.

          With much gratitude :).
