‘Lightworker’ is a term often used in the spiritual community.
If you feel as though you’re called to have a deeper purpose in this world, you might be able to relate to this special role.
In this article, we’ll explore the main signs of being a lightworker.
What is a Lightworker?
A lightworker is a term that refers to a person who has undergone a spiritual awakening and feels called to illuminate the dark places of life.
Lightworkers are often empaths, old souls, and highly sensitive people, with a strong connection to their soul’s voice.
A Lightworker Illuminates the Darkness
While ‘lightworker’ sounds like an exclusively new age term that focuses only on love and light and the ‘feel good,’ it’s not. Or at least, it doesn’t have to be.
The light and darkness are intrinsically connected – one cannot exist without the other.
It’s for this reason that authentic lightworkers often focus a lot on the darkness or the shadow side of humanity.
Many lightworkers focus on:
- healing trauma,
- undoing toxic core beliefs,
- healing the inner child, and
- shining a light on the buried shadow self
After all, what use is the light if it cannot illuminate the darkness?

Greetings am interested but first to hear the word lightworker
There is nothing inherently wrong with the concept of a lightworker itself. It’s just that my issue is that discussions around it are often so lacking of description. What does it mean to be a lightworker beyond showing love, making people happy, or being a good example of happiness yourself? Sure, I agree those are good things, but ask any person, and a million people will give you a million different definitions of these things, which can range from good and bad, and everything in between. I often just rather read secular pieces of advice on how to help people, because they often offer more practical advice on helping others, such as listing specific places to volunteer to or charities to donate to, while people in metaphysical spaces just vaguely talk about love and light, or “fighting over the darkness,” without really talking about what that means. Like, it just feels like people keep using this flowery language or the New Age version of this evangelistic idea of “Be the warrior of God over the forces of Satan!” which just makes the whole thing sound more frightening and overwhelming than it is. A lot of helping people is not going… Read more »
Working with light is not just about shining it, but taking it in as well. The oil refineries around here carry a tremendous amount if it and squander it thereby. So I’ll pass by in my car, take it all in, feel my precious human drives click back into focus for a little while as the structures distribute the remainder as they see fit. Instead of putting light into the world, I invest it into my own soul in this case.
It’s been a long journey, but an amazing one. It’s nice to meet a fellow World Healer 😊

The term “lightworker” simply means you help spread the light through your actions and mindset. Lightworker is a vague and all encompassing term that covers everyone from those who help lost souls into the light down to the grade school teacher who goes the extra mile to give love and support to her students that are suffering or struggling emotionally or academically. It simply means you go through life with your heart chakra leading you. In the simplest of terms “Light” equals “Love.”
